General information and overview

The Ducati 848 EVO is a sleek and powerful superbike that boasts a 849cc Desmo L-twin engine, producing 140PS of power and 72.3lb-ft of torque. It features a lightweight Trellis frame, a single-sided swingarm, and fully adjustable Showa forks, which contribute to its precise handling and stability. The bike is equipped with high-performance Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres and Monobloc Brembo brakes, enhancing its braking and cornering capabilities. The 848 EVO also includes a range of advanced features such as a gear indicator and a sophisticated dashboard. With its aggressive design and performance-oriented build, this bike is ideal for experienced riders who crave the thrill of a track-ready machine on the streets. However, its demanding nature and heat issues in slow traffic make it less suitable for daily commuting or new riders.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Ducati 848 EVO is a formidable machine that embodies the essence of a track-ready superbike, yet it also manages to be street-savvy. From my experience, this bike demands commitment and attention, making it less suitable for novice riders. The handling is precise, with the bike responding keenly to rider input, especially when equipped with the stock Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres. However, the hard clutch and the need for gentle throttle inputs in traffic can be challenging. The engine heat, particularly in slow-moving traffic, is a notable drawback, but its a trade-off for the powerful and responsive L-twin engine that delivers 140PS of power. Overall, the 848 EVO is a bike that rewards experienced riders with its performance and handling, but it may not be the best choice for daily commuting or those new to riding.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Ducati 848 EVO is positioned as a premium superbike, and its pricing reflects that. The ex-showroom price for the 848 EVO can range from around 15 lakh to 18 lakh, depending on the specific variant and any customizations. On-road prices, including taxes, registration, and other costs, can push the total to around 20 lakh to 23 lakh. This pricing is competitive within the segment of high-performance superbikes but is certainly on the higher side for the average motorcycle buyer. For those who value the performance, build quality, and brand prestige of Ducati, the price may be justified, but its a significant investment.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

When it comes to mileage, the Ducati 848 EVO is not designed for fuel efficiency. With its powerful engine and sport-tuned gearing, you can expect mileage in the range of 8-12 kml in city riding and up to 15 kml on the highway, depending on your riding style. This is typical for a high-performance superbike, and running costs will be higher due to the premium fuel and maintenance requirements. If mileage is a primary concern, this bike may not be the best choice, but for those who prioritize performance, its a trade-off worth considering.

Expert Verdict

Professional reviews and expert opinions on Ducati Superbike 848 EVO

20 Sep, 14 02:57 PM
The Ducati Superbike 848 EVO is classified as an entry-level sportsbike by its manufacturer, but some reviewers believe it is not such a junior motorcycle.  The superbike promises its users a smooth experience because of its improved engine, which is the most advanced in its class. The engine consists of an L-Twin cylinder with four valves in each cylinder. The engine is liquid cooled and delivers 140 bhp of power at 10500 rpm. The superbike’s torque is 98 nm at 9750 rpm. The 848 EVO is made to be friendly to users of different sizes because of its dimensions. Its seat stands at 32.6 inches; its wheelbase is 56.3 inches and its front wheel travel is 5 inches, 0.3 inches more than the rear wheel’s. Its dry weight is 168kg, and things get heavier when its 15.5-liter fuel tank is occupied.

In terms of instruments, the 848 EVO is packed with everything a superbike should have. It has an integrated immobilizer system; has warning lights for such things as fuel reserve, turn signals, etc; and has a Digital MotoGP derived unit that displays speed, lap times, air temp, battery voltage, etc. All these make the user’s experience with the superbike all the more enjoyable because interaction with the machine is improved. The superbike’s exhaust system is also crafted in the best of Ducati traditions. It is a lightweight 2-1-2 system that has two lambda probes and a catalytic converter. All these features combine to make a superbike for which the manufacturers give a two-year unlimited mileage warranty.
