Maruti Suzuki is entering the 2026 festive season with about 16 days of dealer-network inventory, below the roughly 30 days the company would prefer. The figure, reported from comments by senior executive officer for marketing and sales Partho Banerjee on September 3, describes stock coverage across the network. It does not mean every customer will receive a car in 16 days, or that all dealerships will run out of cars after that period.
What the 16-day inventory figure means
Inventory expressed in days indicates how much stock a sales network holds relative to its sales pace. It is useful for discussing supply and demand, but it cannot tell an individual buyer whether a particular colour, engine, gearbox or variant is immediately available.
| Measure | Reported position | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Network inventory | Around 16 days | Current aggregate stock coverage |
| Preferred festive level | Around 30 days | The company’s desired seasonal stock buffer |
| Production-line ramp-up | Another 3–4 months | An executive estimate for reaching full capacity |
| Individual vehicle delivery | No uniform date stated | Requires a dealer and variant-specific check |
Why stock is below the preferred level
Banerjee described demand as stronger than anticipated while additional production lines are still ramping up. Two newly commissioned lines are reported to offer a combined annual capacity of about five lakh vehicles once fully ramped. Commissioning a line and operating it at full output are separate milestones; installed capacity should not be read as current monthly production.
The company is working with production and supply-chain teams to meet demand. The reported three-to-four-month ramp-up estimate is a manufacturing outlook, not a promise that every waiting list will disappear on a particular date.

Brezza bookings add context, not a universal wait time
The new Brezza had received more than 60,000 bookings in roughly 35–36 days, according to the latest executive reporting. Maruti’s earlier official announcement confirms the new model’s booking programme, but a booking count is not the same as the number of cars delivered or the number still pending.
It would therefore be misleading to divide that headline booking total by a general production figure and present the result as a buyer’s waiting period. Allocation depends on the vehicle requested and the dealer’s confirmed supply position.
What festive-season buyers should ask
Is the exact car available? Ask for the variant, fuel type, gearbox, colour and model year, rather than accepting a general statement that the model is in stock.
What supports the expected delivery date? Clarify whether the vehicle is already allocated, in transit or still awaiting allocation.
What happens if the date changes? Get the booking, cancellation and payment terms in writing before committing to a time-sensitive plan.
Does an alternative meet the same needs? Compare its actual equipment and final quotation instead of changing variants solely to obtain faster delivery.
If a festival or family event determines the purchase deadline, communicate that date at the outset. A written, vehicle-specific commitment is more useful than inferring availability from the national inventory headline.
What to watch next
As production ramps up, the useful follow-up is whether dealer allocations and model-specific delivery estimates improve. For industry comparisons, the timing of festivals can also shift demand between months, so a broader festive-period view gives better context than interpreting one month in isolation.
Maruti’s 16-day dealer inventory points to a leaner stock buffer than the company wanted for the festive season. For buyers, the practical response is to confirm the exact vehicle and delivery terms, rather than treating the inventory number as a countdown.
