Electric two-wheeler registrations in July 2026 rose 80% year on year to 1,95,446 units, while segment penetration increased to 11.1%. Registrations were almost unchanged from June, so the annual growth rate partly reflects a weak comparison base. TVS and Bajaj strengthened their leadership, while Ola Electric was the only major player in the report to post a year-on-year decline.

What you need to know

  • Total registrations: 1,95,446, up 80% year on year.

  • Penetration: 11.1%, up from 10.6% in June.

  • Sequential trend: nearly flat versus June’s 1,94,940 units.

  • Top two: TVS and Bajaj together recorded 96,848 registrations.

Why 80% annual growth needs context

The July total was only 506 units above June, a difference of roughly 0.3%. The strong year-on-year comparison came against a period when the industry faced a rare-earth magnet shortage. July therefore shows high scale and improved penetration, but not a fresh month-on-month acceleration of the same magnitude.

Penetration rising to 11.1% means electric models captured a larger share of the overall two-wheeler registration market than in June. That is a useful adoption signal because it adjusts for changes in the wider market’s size.

TVS and Bajaj consolidate the top positions

TVS led with 53,031 registrations and a 27.1% share, while Bajaj recorded 43,817 and a 22.4% share. Together they accounted for 49.5% of the market. Their gains highlight the advantage of broad dealer networks, familiar product portfolios and stronger scale, although the registration data alone cannot isolate which factor mattered most.

Ather remained third with 29,301 registrations. Hero nearly doubled its year-on-year volume to 21,506, strengthening its presence among the leaders. The top five together accounted for more than 82% of July registrations.

Ola’s share decline

Ola Electric registrations fell 27% year on year and 17% from June to 13,520. Its reported market share dropped to 6.9%, from 17% a year earlier. This is a significant competitive shift, but registration data does not by itself diagnose the cause; pricing, product cycles, service experience, incentives and supply can all influence monthly outcomes.

What it means for buyers and the industry

Higher penetration and stronger volumes can encourage charging, service and financing ecosystems, yet buyer decisions remain model-specific. Real-world range, battery warranty, service access, software reliability and resale expectations matter more than a brand’s single-month ranking.

For FY27 April–July, electric two-wheeler registrations reached 7,20,730, up 71% year on year. Sustaining an 11%-plus share over several months would be a stronger structural signal than one high-growth comparison.
