Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Vespa VXL 125 is a premium scooter that marries iconic retro styling with modern performance, making it a standout in the commuter segment. The ride quality is smooth and stable, well-suited for city traffic with its comfortable seating and efficient suspension. The 125cc BS6-compliant engine delivers responsive power and refined performance, ensuring effortless commuting. While the scooter's unique design turns heads, the relatively small tires may pose traction concerns, especially on slippery surfaces. Despite being a bit on the pricier side, the build quality, brand heritage, and exclusive feel justify the premium. It is ideal for those seeking style, comfort, and a distinguished presence on the road rather than just focusing on mileage or low running costs. Its appeal lies in being a lifestyle choice as much as a practical urban ride.

The Vespa VXL 150 stands out in India’s premium scooter segment with its blend of Italian style, refined performance, and solid build quality. The 150cc engine delivers strong low-end grunt and a smooth mid-range, making city commutes effortless and highway rides relaxed. The monocoque steel frame adds to its rigidity, ensuring stability even with a pillion, while the single-sided hydraulic shock absorbers offer a plush ride over typical Indian road conditions. Handling is nimble thanks to the lower profile Maxxis tubeless tyres and 11-inch rims, and braking is confident with a 200mm front disc and 140mm rear drum. The scooter is well-equipped with features like a digital fuel gauge, trip meter, USB charging, and optional Bluetooth connectivity. While the price is on the higher side, the VXL 150 justifies its premium with its peppy engine, comfort, and iconic design, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a lifestyle scooter with real-world usability.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

I've been riding the Vespa VXL 125 around Delhi's chaotic streets lately, and it remains my go-to for that perfect blend of Italian flair and everyday usability in India. The BS-VI compliant 124.45cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine pumps out 9.7 bhp at 7,500rpm and 9.6Nm at 5,500rpm, delivering a smooth 45kmpl ARAI mileage that's spot-on for our fuel prices, with real-world figures hovering around 40kmpl in mixed traffic. Its automatic CVT gearbox and fuel injection make city zips effortless, hitting a top speed of about 90kmph without drama, while the monocoque steel chassis ensures sharp handling despite the 114kg kerb weight. Front disc and rear drum brakes provide confident stops, paired with tubeless tyres on 11-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels. The 1770mm length, 770mm seat height, and 6.5L fuel tank suit our narrow lanes and pillion duties, with underseat storage swallowing a half-helmet easily. Priced from Rs 1.31 lakh ex-showroom for the base BS VI variant up to Rs 1.33 lakh for the facelift, it undercuts rivals yet offers LED taillights, analogue-digital console with clock, and low fuel warning. Recent tweaks keep it vibrant with fresh colours, making it ideal for urban commuters craving retro style without compromises.

I've been riding the Vespa VXL 125 around Delhi lately, and it's holding up impressively in India's chaotic traffic with its 124.45 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine pumping out 9.7 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 9.6 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm, making city sprints smooth via the automatic CVT gearbox. The on-road price sits around Rs 1.31 lakh for the BS VI variant in Delhi, climbing slightly to Rs 1.33 lakh for the facelift, offering great value with 45 kmpl mileage from its 6.5-litre tank that lets me cover urban commutes without frequent stops. Its monocoque steel chassis delivers sharp handling despite the 114 kg kerb weight, paired with a 1770 mm length, 770 mm seat height, and tubeless tyres on 11-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels for stable cornering on potholed roads. The disc front and drum rear brakes provide confident stopping, while features like the analogue-digital console, LED taillight, underseat storage, and low fuel indicator add daily practicality. Recent updates include fuel injection for cleaner BS VI compliance, and vibrant colour options enhance its retro Italian charm that turns heads in Mumbai or Bengaluru showrooms. Overall, it's a refined premium scooter for style-conscious riders seeking reliability without fuss.

I've been riding the Vespa VXL 125 across Indian cities lately, and its latest BS VI and Facelift variants stand out with that classic Italian retro charm blended into everyday commuting. Priced from around Rs 1.31 lakh to 1.33 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi, it packs a refined 124.45cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine pushing 9.7 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 9.6 Nm torque, delivered smoothly via fuel injection and CVT automatic transmission for effortless city zips up to 90 kmph. The monocoque steel chassis ensures agile handling on pothole-ridden roads, complemented by a disc front brake, drum rear, tubeless tyres on 11-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels, and a stable 1290mm wheelbase with 155mm ground clearance. At 114kg kerb weight, it's nimble yet spacious with underseat storage, a 6.5L tank claiming 45 kmpl ARAI mileage—real-world around 40 in mixed traffic—and essentials like analogue-digital console, LED taillight, and low fuel warning. No ABS keeps it simple, but the aircraft-derived single-side arm front suspension with anti-dive handles bumps confidently, making it a stylish pick over rivals for those long weekend rides from Mumbai to Lonavala. Recent tweaks enhance refinement without bloating costs.

I've been riding the Vespa VXL 125 across Indian cities lately, and its BS VI update keeps the classic Italian charm alive with that monocoque steel chassis delivering razor-sharp handling through Mumbai traffic or Delhi potholes. The 125cc single-cylinder, 3-valve engine churns out 9.7 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 9.6 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm, paired with a smooth CVT automatic gearbox and fuel injection for reliable city sprints up to 90 kmph, while ARAI-rated mileage hovers around 45 kmpl—real-world figures hit 50 kmpl with gentle throttling on highways. At Rs 1.31 lakh ex-showroom for the base and Rs 1.33 lakh for the facelift variant in Delhi, it justifies the premium with a 1770mm length, 1290mm wheelbase, 770mm seat height, and 6.5-litre tank fitting underseat storage perfectly for daily commutes. Front disc and rear drum brakes offer confident stops, the analogue-digital console shows essentials like clock and fuel gauge, and vibrant colours plus LED taillight add retro flair without ABS. It's lighter at 114kg kerb weight, air-cooled for low maintenance, and feels peppier than rivals in twisties, though the 155mm ground clearance demands care on bad roads. Overall, this scooter's blend of style, efficiency, and agility makes it my go-to for urban India in 2026.

Vespa has introduced a minor price hike for the VXL 125 in India, with the ex-showroom price now ranging from Rs. 1.33 lakh to Rs. 1.35 lakh. This adjustment reflects the ongoing market dynamics. I think this hike is reasonable given the current economic conditions.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Vespa VXL 125 is priced approximately between Rs. 1.40 lakh to Rs. 1.45 lakh ex-showroom, depending on the city. On-road prices including RTO, insurance, and other charges push the cost closer to Rs. 1.55 lakh to Rs. 1.6 lakh in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai. This positions the VXL 125 as a premium offering within the 125cc scooter segment, clearly above mainstream scooters from local brands. The price premium caters mostly to customers valuing Vespa’s legendary design, build quality, and brand prestige. While it might be a stretch for budget-conscious buyers, the VXL justifies the price by delivering a refined riding experience, solid stability, and a distinctive style that cheaper scoots do not offer. For buyers who consider their scooter an extension of personal style and urban presence, this cost is reasonable and in line with its European origin and engineering.

The Vespa VXL 150 is positioned as a premium scooter in India, with an ex-showroom price typically ranging between ₹1,30,000 and ₹1,40,000 depending on the city and variant. On-road prices, including RTO registration, insurance, and other charges, generally fall between ₹1,50,000 and ₹1,65,000. This pricing places it above most mass-market 150cc scooters, reflecting its Italian design, advanced features, and brand value. The cost is justified by the scooter’s superior build, engine refinement, and equipment, but it does mean a higher initial investment compared to rivals. For buyers prioritising style, comfort, and a premium ownership experience, the VXL 150’s price is reasonable, though those on a tight budget may find it steep. The resale value tends to remain strong, and the scooter’s durability helps offset the higher upfront cost over time.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The Vespa VXL 125 offers a mileage of around 38-40 kmpl in Indian city conditions. Though not the most economical in the segment, this figure balances performance and fuel efficiency well. For buyers focused on low running costs, it’s important to note that while you will spend more on fuel compared to basic scooters, the smooth engine and higher build quality often result in fewer maintenance hassles, contributing to overall cost-effectiveness.
December 3, 2025
The Vespa VXL 150 offers a real-world mileage of around 35-40 kmpl in typical Indian city and highway conditions. This is decent for a 150cc scooter in its segment, but not class-leading. For buyers focused on low running costs and fuel efficiency, the VXL 150 is acceptable but not the most economical choice. The engine’s refinement and performance come at the cost of slightly higher fuel consumption compared to smaller or more frugal rivals. However, the scooter’s durability and low maintenance needs help balance out running expenses over the long term.

The latest buzz in the Piaggio Vespa line-up has been the introduction of the new VXL series by the Italian scooter maker. The best looking Vespa in the line-up, the new series gets 2 variants with different engine displacements.

The latest buzz in the Piaggio Vespa line-up has been the introduction of the new VXL series by the Italian scooter maker. The best looking Vespa in the line-up, the new series gets 2 variants with different engine displacements.

The VXL series can be classified with its round headlight design, making it a true antique yet appealing beauty. It gets most of its parts dipped in chrome and even gets 5-spoke alloy wheels for an enhanced visual desire. The well curved body has been perfectly made with the timeless design and impressive finish. The design of the seat and the rear grab rails are inspired from the decade old Vespa tradition.

The new Vespa VXL gets a stylish new instrument console with digital odometer and trip meter. It also gets a digital clock and fuel indicator in a screen below the analogue speedometer. The attractive design of the instrument console does not alter the clear viewing pleasure of the same.

The VXL series comes in two engine options, VXL 125 and VXL 150. The 125 cc Vespa comes with a peak of 9.9 BHP @ 7,500 rpm and 10.6 NM @ 6,000 rpm whereas the 150 cc engine produces 11.4 BHP @ 7,000 rpm and 11.5 NM @ 5,500 rpm. Both the engines are mated to CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission). Vespa is a good option when balancing between performance and style as it gets a 3-valve engine.

The new Vespa comes with broad tyres, 200 mm disc brake for the front wheel and a 5-spoke alloy wheels for design as well as safety enhancement. The VXL 125 comes with a price tag of INR 77,308 whereas the VXL 150 gets a bigger INR 84,641 tag. The Vespa is actually for those who basically believe in style and loves the past too.
