General information and overview

The Mahindra Flyte is a 124.6cc air‑cooled, carburetted scooter that was marketed as an economical, feature‑lite 125cc option with practical touches like external front fuel fill, a large under‑seat storage area and telescopic front suspension to improve ride comfort. It produced modest power (around 8.1 PS) suited for urban commuting rather than spirited performance, and its equipment list focused on essentials rather than electronic aids or connectivity. The Flyte was sold in multiple colours and positioned to undercut pricier 125cc rivals, which helped its value proposition at launch but the model was later discontinued, so prospective buyers in India should prioritise checking local spare‑parts availability, service centre coverage and the condition of any used example before committing.

The Mahindra Flyte, launched in 2008 as successor to Kinetic Flyte and discontinued in 2015, is a 124.6cc air-cooled petrol scooter producing 8.1 PS at 7000 rpm, tailored for Indian urban use with telescopic front suspension, comfortable seating, and large underseat storage for helmets or groceries. It features a 4-in-1 anti-theft key system, external front fuel fill for easy access, and drum brakes for reliable stopping. Available in colors like Pearl White, Red Oomph, Lavender Groove, Black Mystique, Jade Charisma, and Silver Flash, it weighs lightly for easy maneuverability. ARAI mileage is 45 kmpl, with real-world 35-40 kmpl in cities, making it economical. Priced ex-showroom Rs 41,300-49,250 originally, it's now a used buy under Rs 30,000, best for budget commuters valuing practicality over modernity—check engine health and parts at Mahindra dealers to ensure longevity.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Mahindra Flyte to be a reasonably practical 125cc scooter for price-conscious urban riders who prioritise low running costs and simple packaging over cutting‑edge features. The Flyte’s modest 124.6cc air‑cooled engine delivers adequate low‑end pull for city commutes and the scooter’s telescopic front suspension and comfortable seat make daily traffic and short highway hops manageable. Build and refinement are basic compared with current rivals and the model was discontinued, which means buyers should closely check parts availability and service support for their city before purchase. Overall, I’d recommend the Flyte only to someone seeking an affordable, no‑frills 125cc scooter where initial cost and straightforward maintenance matter more than modern tech, strong resale value or the latest safety and connectivity features.
December 13, 2025
I find the Mahindra Flyte a compelling choice for urban commuters in India seeking an affordable 125cc scooter with practical features, though its discontinued status since 2015 means buyers must focus on the used market for value. With a 124.6cc air-cooled engine delivering 8.1 PS at 7000 rpm, it offers smooth city rides, telescopic front suspension for better handling on potholed roads, and a large underseat storage ideal for daily errands. The 4-in-1 anti-theft key and external fuel fill add convenience, while colors like Red Oomph and Black Mystique give it stylish appeal. ARAI-rated at 45 kmpl, real-world city mileage hovers around 35-40 kmpl, keeping running costs low at about Rs 2-2.5 per km with current petrol prices. However, parts availability could be spotty post-discontinuation, so I recommend checking local Mahindra service centers. At used prices often under Rs 20,000-30,000 depending on condition, it undercuts modern rivals like Honda Activa in acquisition cost, making it a smart buy for budget-conscious riders prioritizing storage and security over cutting-edge tech—perfect if you're entering scootering without breaking the bank, but inspect for wear on brakes and suspension before purchase.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

Mahindra has officially discontinued the Flyte scooter from its lineup, marking the end of an era for this model. This decision is part of Mahindras strategy to focus on more profitable and popular models. I think this move will help Mahindra streamline their product offerings and concentrate on vehicles with higher demand.
October 16, 2024
The Mahindra Flyte was known for its sleek design and fuel-efficient engine, making it a favorite among commuters in India. However, despite its popularity, the scooter failed to keep up with the evolving market trends and consumer preferences. I believe the discontinuation is a step towards introducing newer, more advanced models.
August 20, 2024
In the past, Mahindra had been testing new scooter models, but there was no significant update or facelift for the Flyte. This lack of innovation might have contributed to its declining sales and eventual discontinuation. Its clear that Mahindra is now focusing on more modern and feature-rich scooters.
June 11, 2024
The Mahindra Flyte was praised for its comfortable ride and easy handling, making it a great option for daily commuting. However, it lacked some of the advanced features that newer scooters offer, such as digital instrument clusters and more powerful engines. I think this was a key factor in its decline.
April 25, 2024
Despite being discontinued, the Mahindra Flyte still holds a special place in the hearts of many scooter enthusiasts in India. Its reliability and affordability were major selling points, and it remains a testament to Mahindras ability to produce practical and efficient vehicles.

Pricing details and changes

New Flyte ex‑showroom figures historically ranged in the low Rs. 41,000–49,000 band depending on city and model year, with typical published ex‑showroom values such as around Rs. 41,300–49,250 in various listings. On‑road prices therefore historically sat around Rs. 45,000–57,000 after factoring in local registration, insurance and taxes, with city variations (for example Delhi listings near Rs. 45,047 on‑road and Bangalore examples near Rs. 57,458) shown in price aggregators. Since production has been discontinued, current buying decisions in India will mostly involve used‑market prices, and I recommend checking local listings and service network presence: a low upfront cost can be attractive but you must account for potentially higher long‑term ownership uncertainty if spare parts or dealer support are limited in your city.
December 13, 2025
In India, the Mahindra Flyte's ex-showroom price when available ranged from Rs 41,300 to Rs 49,250 across cities, with examples like Rs 41,855 in Bangalore, Rs 41,523 in Chandigarh, Rs 42,678 in Ahmedabad, and up to Rs 43,434 in Agartala, varying by local taxes and variants. On-road prices added RTO (around 10-15% or Rs 6,000-7,000), insurance (Rs 1,200-1,500), pushing totals to Rs 45,000-57,458—for instance, Rs 57,458 in Bangalore including comprehensive insurance, Rs 45,047 in Delhi, Rs 50,311 in Mumbai, and Rs 51,304 in Hyderabad. I view this as exceptionally competitive for a feature-packed 125cc scooter, especially now in the used segment where well-maintained units sell for Rs 15,000-35,000, offering massive savings over new scooters starting at Rs 70,000+. This low entry barrier makes it ideal for first-time buyers or fleet additions, with minimal depreciation risk since it's discontinued—factor in potential service costs at Mahindra centers, but the initial outlay supports quick ROI through low fuel and maintenance needs, helping you allocate budget elsewhere like accessories or extended warranty on the second-hand market.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The official ARAI figure for the Flyte is about 45 km/l, but real‑world owners commonly report figures closer to 35–40 km/l depending on riding style and city traffic, so expect mid‑30s to low‑40s km per litre in everyday Indian use.
December 13, 2025
I rate the Flyte's ARAI 45 kmpl solid for its 125cc class, but expect 35-40 kmpl in Indian city traffic and 40-45 kmpl on highways, yielding running costs of Rs 2-2.5 per km at Rs 100/litre petrol—cheaper than many used rivals. For mileage-focused buyers, it's a yes if daily runs are under 50 km, keeping fuel bills low without premium upkeep.
