Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K6
Mahindra Variant
General information and overview
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K6 is a compact SUV-like hatchback that stands out with its unique design and feature-packed interior. It comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, producing 82PS and 115Nm of torque, paired with a smooth-shifting 5-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle boasts good interior space, storage options, and comfort features such as a cooled glovebox, front armrest, and ambient lighting. The K6 variant includes additional features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual chamber headlamps, and steering-mounted audio controls. With its high ground clearance and SUV-like stance, the KUV100 K6 is easy to drive in urban conditions and offers a comfortable ride over speed bumps and rough roads. However, its performance on highways is less impressive, and the build quality, though acceptable at this price point, has some room for improvement.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K6 is a unique offering in the Indian market, blending the characteristics of a hatchback and an SUV. While it excels in city driving with its smooth gearshift, compliant urban ride quality, and ample interior space, it falls short in several areas. The overdone styling, though distinctive, may not appeal to everyone, and the handling, NVH, and braking performance are subpar at higher speeds. The engine, though refined and powerful for city use, lacks punch on the highway. Despite these drawbacks, the KUV100 K6 offers good value for money, especially with its extensive feature list, including DRLs, ambient lighting, and a cooled glovebox. However, potential buyers need to weigh these pros and cons carefully, particularly if they plan to use the vehicle for frequent highway trips.
Recent news and announcements
The Mahindra KUV100, including the K6 variant, initially saw strong demand with over 21,000 bookings in just a month after its launch. This led to a waiting period of up to three months, prompting Mahindra to increase production to meet the demand. I believe this initial success was a testament to the vehicles appeal and value proposition in the market. | 02/18/2016 |
The Mahindra KUV100 NXT, including the K6 variant, has been discontinued from the market. This decision comes as part of Mahindras strategy to focus on other models and comply with newer emission norms. The KUV100 NXT was known for its safety features, including dual front airbags and ABS with EBD, even on the base variants. I believe this move will allow Mahindra to concentrate on more popular and profitable models in their lineup.
Mahindra updated the KUV100 NXT to meet the BS6 emission norms, but this update came with some significant changes. The 5-seating layout and the base-spec K2 variant were discontinued, and the focus shifted to the K6+ and K8 variants. The K6+ variant, in particular, saw the addition of features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and auto start/stop function. I think these updates were necessary to keep the model competitive, but the loss of the base variant might affect its affordability.
The Mahindra KUV100 K6+ variant was praised for its additional features over the lower variants. It included a remote key, electrically-adjustable mirrors, and a driver information system, among others. The K6+ also came with a micro-hybrid system and speed-sensing auto-door locks, enhancing both efficiency and safety. I believe these features made the K6+ a good value-for-money option in its segment.
Mahindra launched the KUV100 NXT with a bold new look, featuring a redesigned seven-slot grille, larger alloy wheels, and redesigned tail lamps. The K6 variant benefited from these styling upgrades and also received new premium finishes inside, including new fabric upholstery and piano black detailing. I think the new design gave the KUV100 a fresh and more aggressive look, which could attract more buyers.
Pricing details and changes
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K6 is priced competitively in the Indian market. At the time of its launch, the ex-showroom price ranged between Rs. 4.45 lakhs to Rs. 6.84 lakhs, depending on the variant. For the K6 variant specifically, you can expect an ex-showroom price around Rs. 6.5 lakhs. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, would typically be around Rs. 7.5 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs, varying by state and local taxes. This pricing makes the KUV100 K6 an attractive option for those seeking a feature-rich, compact vehicle with SUV-like stance, but its crucial to factor in the additional costs such as registration, insurance, and any customizations.
Fuel efficiency information
The Mahindra KUV100 Petrol K6 offers decent mileage, making it a viable choice for city drivers. Users have reported mileage of around 15-18 kmpl in city driving conditions, which can improve slightly with the Eco mode. While it may not be the best in class, the fuel economy is satisfactory, especially considering the vehicles power and comfort features. For those concerned about running costs, the KUV100 K6 strikes a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, though it may not match the economy of some of its competitors.
