General information and overview

The 2010 Ford Fusion, India's tall-boy hatchback on the Fiesta platform, packs a refined 1.4-litre TDCi diesel engine with peppy pickup, smooth gearbox, and 68PS power suiting urban crawls and highway overtakes. I appreciate its 175mm ground clearance absorbing Mumbai potholes effortlessly, 15-inch wheels smoothing rough patches, and SUV-like driving position with vast glass area for all-round visibility. Cabin impresses with wide space for five, generous rear legroom, 10 storage spots, power features, rear wiper, and fast-chilling AC—ideal for families. Boot swallows weekend luggage easily, while handling mirrors Fiesta's sharpness with confident braking and minimal body roll. Discontinued in 2010 due to marketing lapses, it still excels in comfort, grip, and refinement over basic hatches, though tyre noise and sparse audio are minor niggles. For used buyers, its durability and economy make it a smart pick under ₹2.5 lakh, delivering premium usability on diverse Indian roads.

The 2010 Ford Fusion, India's tall-boy hatchback icon discontinued in Q1 2010, packs a 1.4-litre TDCi diesel engine with responsive pickup, Fiesta-like handling, and 15-inch wheels smoothing Mumbai potholes for SUV-esque poise. I love its spacious cabin fitting three rear adults comfortably, vast boot, and features like power windows, steering, rear wiper, defogger, and quick AC, all in a stylish wrapper with broad windshield views and quiet highway refinement. Ground clearance shines on bad roads, braking is assured, and 10 storage spaces add practicality. Minor niggles like tyre noise and hard spares access exist post-Ford's marketing flop, but its blend of efficiency, space, and drive makes it a used gem for Indian buyers prioritizing versatility over gadgets.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the 2010 Ford Fusion a standout choice in India's used car market for buyers seeking a tall-boy hatchback with sedan-like comfort and SUV-ish presence. Its 1.4 TDCi diesel engine delivers punchy acceleration and handles chaotic city traffic effortlessly, while the high ground clearance tackles pothole-ridden roads from Mumbai to Delhi without scraping. I love the spacious cabin offering ample legroom for three rear adults, excellent boot space, and a broad windshield for superior visibility—perfect for family drives. Ride quality shines on highways with minimal engine noise and stable high-speed grip akin to pricier cars, plus the AC cools rapidly even in peak summer heat. Fuel efficiency impresses at 18-20 kmpl on open roads, keeping running costs low. Drawbacks like limited service network post-Ford's 2010 exit mean sourcing parts requires effort, but the robust build and Fiesta-derived handling make it reliable for daily commutes. At current used prices, it offers unbeatable value over newer hatches, especially if you prioritize space, performance, and economy—buy one with verified service history for worry-free ownership.

I find the 2010 Ford Fusion a standout choice in India's compact car segment, blending sedan agility with tall-boy versatility that tackles our pothole-riddled roads effortlessly thanks to its 15-inch wheels and high ground clearance. The 1.4 TDCi diesel engine delivers punchy acceleration and smooth highway cruising with minimal cabin noise, making long drives from Delhi to Chandigarh feel luxurious while offering excellent grip at high speeds. Space impresses me with ample legroom for three rear adults, a massive boot, and 10 storage spots, plus rapid-cooling AC perfect for humid summers. Handling mirrors the Fiesta's sharpness, giving an SUV-like command without compromising efficiency. Drawbacks like Ford's discontinued support in 2010 mean sourcing spares requires effort, and tyre noise filters in, but for used buyers seeking value, its refined ride, safety features like power steering and rear wiper, and proven durability make it a smart pick over bland rivals—I've seen it hold up over 2000km of mixed terrain without regrets.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The 2010 Ford Fusion has been noted for its extensive mechanical issues, including power steering problems and transmission failures. These issues often arise around the 100,000-mile mark and can be costly to repair. I think its crucial for potential buyers to be aware of these potential pitfalls before making a purchase.
October 6, 2022
Ford introduced several updates for the 2010 Fusion, including a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a more powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine for the Sport model. These changes aimed to improve both power and fuel efficiency. I believe these updates made the 2010 Fusion a more competitive midsize sedan.
September 1, 2022
The 2010 Ford Fusion Sport AWD features a 3.5-liter V6 engine, which provides a significant boost in power compared to other Fusion models. It can hit 60 mph in 6.7 seconds and has a governed top speed of 126 mph. However, the all-wheel drive system slightly reduces the extra power gain.
August 15, 2022
Owners of the 2010 Ford Fusion have reported various brake-related issues, such as premature pad and rotor wear, and problems with the antilock system. Regular maintenance is essential to avoid these costly repairs. I think its important for owners to keep a close eye on brake health.
July 20, 2022
The 2010 Ford Fusion received a refreshed exterior and interior design, which was well-received for its improved ergonomics and attractive layout. However, the standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine was criticized for its raspy note under hard acceleration.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India's used market, the 2010 Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi fetches ex-showroom equivalents of around ₹6.5-8 lakh when new, but today well-maintained examples trade at ₹1.5-2.5 lakh depending on mileage, condition, and location like Delhi or Mumbai. On-road prices back then added ₹50,000-80,000 for insurance, registration, and taxes, pushing totals to ₹7-9 lakh; now, add ₹20,000-40,000 for transfer fees, making on-road around ₹1.7-3 lakh. I see this as a steal compared to contemporaries like Swift or Dzire, which command higher resale due to better service support—Fusion's premium feel and diesel torque justify the slight edge in cost, but negotiate hard on high-mileage units. Factor in cheaper insurance at ₹15,000-20,000 annually versus petrol rivals, and low depreciation makes it budget-friendly for first-time buyers eyeing 50,000-80,000 km cars. Avoid rust-prone examples in coastal areas; a ₹2 lakh investment yields luxury-like space and efficiency, outperforming entry SUVs in value per rupee spent on Indian roads.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I rate the 2010 Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi diesel's mileage highly for Indian conditions at 12-13 kmpl city and 18-20 kmpl highway, beating most petrol hatches and keeping monthly fuel bills under ₹4,000 for 1,000 km. Low running costs make it ideal for budget-conscious buyers versus thirstier rivals.

It beats petrol hatches, aiding buy decisions for high-km drivers despite occasional 7kmpl AC-on dips in Kolkata traffic.

Ford Fusion is a hatchback from Ford that was discontinued in 2010 due to lack of sale and also the other reason may be that Ford waited a little too long to launch Fusion's diesel version.

Ford Fusion is a hatchback from Ford that was discontinued in 2010 due to lack of sale and also the other reason may be that Ford waited a little too long to launch Fusion's diesel version. The exterior of Fusion gives a strong and robust feeling with wide windshield, angular front headlights and smart front fog lights. In between them is a wide grille with the logo of Ford, 15-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, power windows, stylish rear tail lights and trendy rear wiper and defogger. The interior of Fusion is also made for full comfort of the passengers except the material used for seats and dashboard which looks quite cheap and dull. Its interior is lashed with spacious dashboard with cup holders, power steering which can also be adjusted according to your preferences, power door locks, AC, central locking and tachometer. The boot space of the car is 337 litres.

Also the front and rear track are 1484mm and 1444mm respectively and the hatchback provides with the seating capacity of five people comfortably. Ford Fusion comes with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1596cc 1.6L DOHC four cylinder four valve/cylinder in-line Multi-Point Petrol Injection engine generates a maximum power of 99.6 bhp at 6500 rpm and a maximum torque of 146 Nm at 3400 rpm and is mated with a five speed manual gearbox. This petrol engine gives a mileage of 9.6 kmpl in the cities and 14.9 kmpl on the highways with the top speed of 160kmph and reaches 0-100kmph mark in 12.9 seconds. On the other hand, the 1399cc 1.4L TDCi SOHC four cylinder two valve/cylinder in-line High Pressure Common Rail Diesel engine generates a maximum power of 68 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm and is mated with a five speed manual gearbox. This diesel engine produces a mileage of 13.5 kmpl in the cities and 19 kmpl on the highways with the top speed of 158 kmph and reaches 0-100 kmph mark in 7.65 seconds.

As far as safety of the passengers is concerned, it doesn't provide Airbags neither for passengers nor for driver which is a problem factor but it is equipped with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), immobilizer and child safety locks, thus providing an average amount of safety. The front suspension of Fusion is equipped with independent McPherson strut with offset coil spring units and lower L-arms with optimised bushes which are mounted on separate cross member with stabiliser bar, while the rear suspension is equipped with semi-independent heavy duty twist beam with low package height coil springs and separate twin-tube dampers. Fusion has 258mm ventilated disk brakes at front and 203mm self-adjusting drum brakes at rear.

It also has a good ground clearance of 198mm which saves you from large speed breakers and potholes of Indian roads and has a minimum turning radius of 4.9m which helps in cutting across city traffic smoothly and easily. It has a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres and wheelbase of 2486mm. Fusion has a width of 1720mm, height of 1529mm and length of 3989mm (diesel) and 4018mm (petrol) as its dimension. Ford Fusion has four variants which are 1.4 TDCi Diesel (2007-2010), Diesel Plus (2009-2010), 1.6 DOHC Petrol (2004-2010) and Petrol Plus (2009-2010). It was available in six beautiful shades which are Panther Black, Moondust Silver, Paprika Red, Mystic Wine, Brush Steel and Diamond White. It has a price range between INR 6-7lakhs. Overall, Fusion is a good combination of comfort, performance, power, rigidness but lacks in interior quality, safety and entertainment and has high maintenance cost.
