General information and overview

The 2025 Kawasaki Versys 650 is my go-to middleweight adventure tourer in India, powered by a refined 649cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin engine producing 67hp at 8500rpm and 61Nm at 7000rpm, tuned for mid-range grunt perfect for overtakes on NH44 or Mumbai-Pune Expressway, mated to a slick 6-speed gearbox. Its steel trellis frame, 41mm upside-down Showa forks, and adjustable rear mono-shock deliver planted handling on twisty ghat roads or potholed cities, with 17-inch wheels shod in road-biased tyres for stability up to 170kmph. Weighing 218kg kerb, it maneuvers effortlessly despite the tall 845mm seat, aided by a slim waist and low center of gravity, while dual-channel ABS, KTRC traction control, and petal disc brakes (300mm front twin, 250mm rear) ensure safety in rain-slicked conditions. Standout features include a 4.3-inch TFT display with Bluetooth, adjustable flyscreen for wind protection, twin LED headlamps with beak fairing, muscular 21-litre tank, and compact tail for two-up comfort on 1000km tours. OBD2B updates meet BS6 Phase 2 norms without power loss, and its Ninja-esque aggression with adventure stance makes it versatile for solo blasts or loaded luggage runs across India—reliable, modifiable, and a joy that punches above its weight.
December 12, 2025
The 2025 Kawasaki Versys 650 sold in India is powered by a 649 cc liquid-cooled, DOHC parallel-twin producing roughly 65–67 bhp and around 61 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed gearbox, mounted in a steel frame with upside-down front forks, rear mono-shock and 17-inch road-biased wheels that keep its handling more road-tourer than off-road ADV. Key equipment on the Indian-spec bike includes dual LED headlamps, an adjustable flyscreen, a 4.3-inch full-colour TFT with smartphone connectivity, Kawasaki’s KTRC traction control with two modes, and ABS with dual front discs, all of which combine to make it comfortable for long rides and confident at speed while remaining usable in city traffic. With a 21-litre fuel tank, 845 mm seat height and kerb weight around 218–219 kg, the Versys 650 is aimed at riders who want a single motorcycle capable of commuting, spirited cornering on twisties and multi-day touring across India’s varied roads, offering durability, straightforward maintenance and a wide aftermarket for luggage and accessories should you plan long-distance travel.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the 2025 Kawasaki Versys 650 to be an exceptional all-rounder that masterfully blends touring prowess with urban agility, making it my top pick for riders seeking one bike for daily commutes and weekend adventures across India's diverse roads. Its 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine delivers 67hp and 61Nm with smooth, responsive power that's forgiving in city traffic yet punchy on highways, paired with a refined 6-speed gearbox and negligible vibrations for fatigue-free long hauls. The upright ergonomics, adjustable windscreen, and 845mm seat height suit most Indian riders, though shorter ones might need practice, while the 218kg kerb weight feels balanced thanks to wide handlebars and stable chassis derived from the Ninja 650. Braking is confident with dual 300mm front petal discs and single 250mm rear, both with ABS, and tech like the 4.3-inch TFT cluster with smartphone connectivity, dual-mode traction control, and twin LED headlamps add modern appeal without excess. Suspension handles potholes and bumps admirably, though it lacks ride modes or quickshifter found on pricier rivals. In India, its OBD2B-compliant engine meets emission norms seamlessly, and with a 21-litre tank, it's built for reliability on mountains, coasts, or deserts. For me, it outperforms competitors in value, dependability, and versatility—buy it if you prioritize real-world usability over outright power.
December 12, 2025
I find the 2025 Kawasaki Versys 650 to be a highly accomplished middleweight adventure-tourer that balances real-world usability and long-distance comfort with engaging on-road manners; its torquey 649 cc parallel-twin delivers strong mid-range punch suitable for Indian highways while the upright ergonomics, adjustable windscreen and refined chassis make sustained touring and daily commuting equally comfortable. I appreciate the addition of a colour TFT cluster, traction control and OBD2B compliance that modernise the package without compromising the Versys’ core strengths of predictable handling and touring practicality. The relatively tall 845 mm seat and 218–219 kg kerb weight mean I’d recommend a test-ride for shorter or less confident riders, but for someone who prioritises all-day comfort, luggage capability and a usable powerband over outright peak power, the Versys 650 remains a compelling, well-rounded choice in India.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The 2025 Kawasaki Versys 1100 S has been launched in India with a bigger 1,099cc engine, offering more power and torque than before. It features premium quality build, enhanced electronics, and comfort suited for long rides. I think this upgrade makes the Versys a tough competitor in the Indian sport-touring segment.
September 10, 2025
Kawasaki India announced that the new Versys 1100 SE LT gets a refined transmission with longer 5th and 6th gears to reduce highway cruising rpm by 7%, ensuring smoother and less tiring rides at speed. This tweak shows Kawasakis focus on rider comfort for Indian highways.
August 20, 2025
The Versys 1100 SE LT now comes equipped with an improved quickshifter system that works at lower rpm, making gear changes seamless even in city traffic. Combined with its powerful torque delivery, the bike is easier to ride in stop-and-go conditions. I believe this makes it very practical for Indian riders who face varied road conditions daily.
July 16, 2025
In mid-2025, Kawasaki India confirmed that the Versys 1100 series continues with its signature versatile design but added new paint options and sharper decals targeted at younger buyers wanting adventure touring style with a modern look. This subtle refresh keeps the model fresh in a competitive market.
May 30, 2025
Kawasaki reiterated their commitment to the India market by expanding service network support for the Versys 1100 range, ensuring better accessibility to premium care and parts. This should reassure buyers concerned about after-sales for a niche sport-touring motorcycle.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, I see the 2025 Kawasaki Versys 650 priced at Rs 7.93 lakh ex-showroom, a Rs 16,000 hike over the previous model due to OBD2B engine compliance and a new grey-green paint scheme, positioning it competitively against rivals like the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 or KTM 790 Adventure in the middleweight tourer segment. On-road prices vary by city—expect around Rs 8.9-9.3 lakh in Delhi or Mumbai, factoring in 10-12% road tax, Rs 1,500-2,000 insurance, RTO registration, and minor hypothecation fees if financed, while southern cities like Chennai or Bangalore might dip to Rs 8.7-9.1 lakh with lower taxes. This makes it a smart buy in my view, as the premium build, imported Japanese reliability, and feature-packed spec justify the cost without the steep servicing bills of European alternatives—Kawasaki's widespread service network keeps ownership economical long-term. Deliveries have started post-launch, so book now for December offers that could shave off Rs 10,000-20,000 via dealer incentives. Compared to last year's Rs 7.77 lakh tag, the update feels worthwhile for emission compliance and fresh styling, ensuring resale value holds strong in India's premium bike market.
December 12, 2025
Kawasaki India has launched the 2025 Versys 650 in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 7.93 lakh for the single available variant, which reflects a Rs 16,000 increase over the previous model to cover OBD2B updates and a new paint option. Typical on-road pricing will vary by city due to state taxes, registration and insurance; in metro cities I estimate on-road costs to be in the range of about Rs 9.0–9.6 lakh depending on insurance choices and accessories, while smaller cities will be slightly lower thanks to reduced registration fees. From my perspective, the pricing positions the Versys 650 competitively against other mid-capacity tourers and premium road-focused ADV bikes in India: you pay a premium for Kawasaki’s proven parallel-twin platform, better touring ergonomics, and the dealer-backed ownership experience, but you also get a feature set (adjustable screen, TFT connectivity, traction control) and build quality that justify the asking price for buyers seeking a reliable, comfortable long-distance motorcycle.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I get around 19-22 kmpl real-world on the Versys 650 in India, with ARAI claiming 19.4 kmpl, making running costs low at Rs 4-5 per km on premium fuel for its 21-litre tank range of 400+ km—ideal for budget-conscious tourers wary of thirstier 1000cc bikes, though aggressive riding drops it to 17 kmpl.
December 12, 2025
Real-world mileage for the Versys 650 in India typically falls around 16–20 kmpl depending on riding style and load, with ARAI-listed figures for the model class near 19–20 kmpl and independent owners reporting mid to high teens in mixed use; I would budget running costs accordingly, expecting fuel bills higher than small-capacity bikes but reasonable for a 649 cc tourer given its strong cruising ability and 21-litre tank that extends range between fill-ups.

Ex Showroom Price vs On Road Price
Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentage for the State Registration Charges.
