Will the Emeya be the thing that helps Lotus survive, or is it a last ditch effort to alienate core fans?

Like many other small sports car manufacturers, Lotus has seen financial difficulties in recent years. The Emeya is one bold step towards a more mainstream and potentially profitable segment. But it’s a shift that could also alienate longtime Lotus enthusiasts who appreciate the brand’s emphasis on lightweight, driver focused sports cars. But the question raises broader questions about the challenges facing niche automakers in an industry that is changing, the tension between the financial necessity of the moment and brand identity, and the long term ramifications of a dramatic pivot in product strategy.

It's a necessary evil. Lotus has to adapt or die because the car industry is changing.

They should have hung onto their guns and launched an electric Elise. It’s too far from their roots.

True fans will come around if it drives like a Lotus. It’s about the experience, not the body style.

Geely bought Lotus and they died. This is just the last nail in the coffin.

It's a smart move. The Emeya will also be used to bring in cash to fund development of proper sports cars.

Core fans? All 12 of them? Lotus has to grow up and get to a wider audience.

It's sell out or die. At least it might mean a few more Lotus sports cars in the future.
