Will the 7e's potential as a 7 seater come at the expense of performance?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
Word on the street is that the Mahindra XEV 7e could be offered in a 7-seater configuration, which has split opinion among potential customers and enthusiasts alike. That begs the question of how the extra seating might affect the vehicle's performance given its high power output. There are those that contend that the extra weight of the third row and anyone riding in it will substantially affect acceleration, handling and most importantly, the electric range of the SUV. To others, it’s merely a useful feature that makes the XEV 7e a more practical, family-ready car. There's also debate about whether an electric SUV should be a performance oriented electric SUV or prioritize passenger capacity or go all out on the sportiness. Also, what impact the 7 seat layout will have on interior space, cargo capacity, and the balance of the car, and that further will on the cost of the car.

We'll see how they roll it out. Perhaps they will provide 5 and 7 seat versions to meet different requirements. Key here could be flexibility.

It could actually be brilliant. Picture a 7 seater that can beat most 5 seater ICE SUVs. This would be unique to the market.

I'm more worried about range. In an EV every extra kilo counts. A fully loaded 7-seater configuration could have a major impact on the range from something like 120 to under 60 miles.

Electric powertrains are different, and you’re all forgetting it. With that much power, the extra weight might not negatively affect performance as much as you’d think.

The real question here is how usable that third row is going to be. Basically, if it's cramped, it's not worth the performance trade off. The packaging is critical for Mahindra.

I disagree. It's way more practical for families with 7 seats. Not everyone wants to sacrifice performance for space. This could be a game-changer.

7 seats in a performance EV? That's trying to do too much. It will surely reduce the range and flying characteristics. Mahindra should do 5 seats and go for maximum performance.
