So is the BYD Sealion 7 a true Tesla Model Y competitor?
by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views5 comments
The BYD Sealion 7 is heating up the electric SUV market as a potential rival to the popular Tesla Model Y. However, there are several things that make the choice between them a truly tough call. Sealion 7 has a rotating central display, and advanced driver assistance systems. Tesla has a better established brand and Supercharger network, however. It is expected that price points will be similar, with the Sealion 7 coming in slightly less than the Model Y. Both deliver neck and neck performance specs, with quick acceleration and long range options. There is a debate in the EV world about whether BYD’s rapid innovation and competitive pricing will succeed over Tesla’s brand loyalty and ecosystem advantages.

Brand loyalty is a powerful thing. Despite how good the Sealion 7 is on paper, Tesla has a cult following that BYD will struggle to replicate.

As a Model Y owner, I am quite impressed by the Sealion 7’s specs but I am not sure that it can compete overall with the Tesla experience. Over the air and the ecosystem is what's game changing.

The Sealion 7 is, I think, a serious contender. Battery tech from BYD is top notch and they’re innovating faster than Tesla these days. That price point is hard to ignore, too.

The Supercharger network is Tesla’s killer feature, let’s be real. They’ll always be playing catch-up until they can build that infrastructure until BYD can.

Both have been test driven by me, and I have to admit I was surprised by the Sealion 7. It feels more solid than the Model Y, and that rotating screen is actually pretty cool in real life. Tesla's software, and Autopilot, are still leagues ahead though.
