Is the Maruti Tour H3 really a safer budget taxi than the competition, due to its popularity?

The Maruti Tour H3 in taxi fleets has been widely adopted, and this led to discussions about its safety vis a vis other budget taxi options. Some say that because it's so popular, mechanics are more familiar with it, so they do better maintenance and maybe even safer vehicles on the road. But some others argue that its basic safety features may not be enough for the place of constant taxi use. There’s argument over whether or not the ubiquity of the Tour H3 will help passengers to spot any safety issues or modifications. But, some also say, the car's lighter weight, while it makes for a more fuel efficient car, may not be as protective in the event of a collision as heavier cars. The question is also whether Maruti should provide additional safety features to the Tour H3 in view of its commercial usage.

I think it's safer in terms of crash protection, but maybe not in terms of maintenance. It's great for fuel efficiency but not so great for collisions.

Let’s be honest, it’s probably as safe as any other budget taxi. We just think it must be popular so that makes it safe. These taxi versions should really be upped in the safety game by Maruti.

Familiarity is what makes it safe. Because they've taken so many Tour H3 taxis, passengers can easily spot if something's off. It's crowd sourced safety check.

Safer? No way. The car is budget with the usual safety features. Popular doesn't mean safer. I'd much rather have a safe, heavy car with the latest and greatest.

It is safer, I would say, because mechanics know these cars inside out. This is critical for taxis and any issues get spotted and fixed quickly.
