Is Kia's boxy EV5 on the money or not?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The Kia EV5 is a boxy, upright car that's very different from many sleek, aerodynamic EVs you'll find out there. The design choice is highly polarising: some applaud this bold, futuristic design, others are not entirely convinced. The boxy shape is good for interior space, but it may hurt range efficiency. It's a smaller version of the larger Kia EV9, having that style in a more compact package. It has a blanked out grille, slim LED lighting and angular body lines. It’s an approach that stands out in a sea of curvy crossovers, but it won’t suit everyone’s taste. As such, its design is mired in a debate about the balance of form and function in EV design and whether such a bold aesthetic will age well or date quickly.

It's a miss for me. This looks stuck in the past and EVs should be about the future. Smooth lines and aero any day.

The boxy look is a great look for city driving. When you can see exactly where the corners are, it’s easier to park and maneuver in tight spaces.

I believe Kia is taking a risk here and I like that. However, I fear it could feel dated in a couple of years when other EVs will have changed their design.

It's growing on me. I thought it was ugly at first, but I loved how it stood out now. At least this has some personality in a sea of cookie cutter crossovers.

As a parent, I'm all for it. And that shape allows for easier loading of kids and cargo, and more headroom. I don't care that it's not the sleekest thing on the road.

Eh, I'm not sold. They’ve basically taken an 80s Volvo and added some LED lights to it. I know, it’s practical, but does it have to be so… square?

I love it! I like that we have an EV that doesn't look like a squished jelly bean. Its boxy design screams practicality and makes it stand out as unique on the road.
