Does the Bullet 350X’s lower fuel efficiency than other 350cc bikes justify it’s riding experience?

With rising fuel prices and a cost conscious market, fuel efficiency is a big factor for many Indian motorcycle buyers. The much loved Royal Enfield Bullet 350X with its classic appeal and thumping engine note is often the butt of jokes for its relatively lower fuel efficiency in comparison to other 350cc motorcycles in the market. Competitors' modern bikes often have better km/l figures, resulting in an argument as to whether the Bullet's special riding experience makes up for the extra running costs. While supporters say the bike's character and feel is worth the extra fuel expense, critics note that the differential in fuel costs can add up in day to day use. Besides that, there is discussion about how riding style influences fuel consumption, with some arguing that the right Bullet maintained cleanly but ridden reasonably can be a quite consumptive marvel. Further, the environmental aspect of increased fuel consumption is sometimes added to the discussion, particularly as there is growing sensitivity of emissions and air quality in Indian cities.

But I think it really depends on how you use it. The lower efficiency can be painful for daily commuting. The extra fuel cost is definitely justified, but for weekend rides and touring.

If you ride sensibly it’s not that bad in terms of efficiency. It’s not as good as some others, yes, but not by much. But I feel the joy of riding a Bullet compensates for the additional cost of fuel.

It's a trade-off. You will spend more on fuel, but you’re getting a unique riding experience that no other 350cc bike can give. But if you love motorcycling, it's worth it.

No way is it justified. Today’s economy is one where every rupee counts. If you can get a more efficient bike that will perform better, why spend more on fuel? 'Experience' doesn't pay your bills.

The Bullet experience is totally worth it with the lower fuel efficiency. There’s no price you can put on that classic thump and the feeling you get riding a legend. Transportation is not just that, it’s an emotion.
