General information and overview

The ICML Extreme is a large, diesel-powered multi-utility vehicle with a 1994 cc turbocharged CRDi engine offering 120 bhp and 285 Nm torque, paired with a manual transmission. It features a long wheelbase of 2541 mm, providing spacious seating for large families or commercial use. The suspension is tuned for Indian road conditions, offering decent comfort on potholed surfaces but struggling with stability at higher speeds. Safety features are basic, lacking ABS and airbags, though the structure includes side and cross car beams for crash protection. The vehicle’s design focuses on durability and power rather than cutting-edge technology, catering to buyers needing a rugged, powerful MUV within an affordable budget. Despite the brand halting production, the Extreme’s cabin space, engine performance, and ride comfort make it a viable contender in the pre-owned market for those prioritizing value and robustness.

The ICML Extreme is a rugged diesel-powered multi-utility vehicle designed to cater to Indian buyers needing a powerful yet affordable MUV. It features a 1994 cc turbocharged diesel engine delivering 120 bhp and 285 Nm, matched with a manual transmission for responsive driving. The vehicle boasts a spacious and functional cabin that accommodates large families or corporate fleets, with decent seating comfort and practicality. While it lacks the modern infotainment and premium touches found in newer rivals, it compensates with sturdy build quality and reliable engine performance. Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The ICML Extreme stands out with a robust 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine delivering 120 bhp and 285 Nm of torque, making it quite powerful for its segment. It features a refined CRDi engine that has substantially improved ride quality and drivability compared to older versions. While its light steering aids city maneuvering, on highways the handling and stability feel compromised due to noticeable body roll and less grounded suspension performance. It offers good acceleration with 0-100 km/h in about 17 seconds and a cruising speed of around 140 km/h, making it suitable for urban and moderate highway use. However, it lacks modern safety features like ABS and airbags, which is a significant downside. The interior is spacious, and the ride comfort is decent on uneven roads, but it disappoints with handling at high speeds. Overall, it is a value-focused vehicle best suited for buyers prioritizing engine power and space over advanced features and high-speed stability.

The ICML Extreme stands out primarily for its powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 120 bhp and 285 Nm torque, delivering robust performance uncommon in its segment. The cabin is spacious and functional, making it suitable for family use or corporate transportation. It offers comfortable seating and a solid build, with features that cater well to long drives. However, the design and refinement lag behind more contemporary rivals like Mahindra Bolero or Maruti Ertiga, which provide better overall packaging and updated technology. Given its diesel powertrain, it is well suited for those prioritizing power and durability over modern creature comforts. Maintenance and running costs are reasonable, and the ICML Extreme offers decent fuel efficiency, making it a practical choice in rural and semi-urban areas where ruggedness matters more than sleek design. However, for buyers focused on premium interiors or the latest infotainment systems, it may feel dated. Overall, the ICML Extreme is a niche offering that appeals to buyers seeking a no-nonsense, powerful MUV at a competitive price point in India.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the ICML Extreme is priced ex-showroom approximately between ₹6.66 lakh and ₹9.78 lakh depending on variant and city, with on-road prices typically ranging up to around ₹10.5 lakh including taxes, insurance, and registration charges. This positions it competitively against older but proven MUVs in the ₹7-10 lakh bracket such as the Mahindra Bolero and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The ICML Extreme’s pricing reflects its basic but sturdy build and powerful engine, offering a lower-cost alternative for buyers who focus more on engine performance and cabin space rather than premium features. However, potential buyers should consider that newer models from other manufacturers offer more contemporary safety and convenience technologies at comparable or slightly higher price points. The ICML Extreme remains a niche choice given ICML is no longer manufacturing new cars, impacting long-term service and resale considerations.

In India, the ICML Extreme is priced approximately between Rs. 6.6 lakh and Rs. 9.7 lakh ex-showroom, depending on the variant and city. On-road prices, including insurance, road tax, and other charges, typically push the cost to around Rs. 7.5 lakh to Rs. 11 lakh in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Compared to contemporary competitors in the MUV segment such as the Mahindra Bolero and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Extreme is often slightly more affordable in its lower variants but may lag in value perception due to fewer modern features. The pricing reflects its rugged build and diesel engine appeal, targeting buyers prioritizing power and utility over plush interiors. In the current market scenario, the Extreme’s price makes it a compelling option for fleet owners and buyers looking for a cost-effective, high-torque diesel MUV with basic but adequate features. While it may not compete with premium competitors on equipment, its pricing suits those focused on robustness and lower running costs.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The ICML Extreme delivers an average mileage of around 13 km/l in real-world Indian conditions, which is reasonable for its 2.0-liter diesel engine and sizeable frame. While not class-leading fuel efficiency, it balances power and economy well, making it a cost-effective option for buyers focusing on moderate running costs without compromising on engine performance.
December 9, 2025
The ICML Extreme offers mileage around 12-13 km/l under typical Indian driving conditions, which is decent for a diesel MUV with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. Considering its power output and torque, this fuel efficiency strikes a good balance between performance and running cost, making it suitable for buyers concerned about mileage. Its efficiency keeps daily fuel expenses manageable while delivering sufficient power for varied road conditions.

Overview

Last year, we have seen certain growth in the demand of SUVs in India. Most of these SUVs are economical and to spice up the competition ICML has also launched their Extreme. This is the revised version of their less known MUV Rhino. Let’s try to find out if there is anything new in this car apart from its name.

ICML Extreme Exterior

It’s a completely Indian car and by saying this we are trying to indicate towards its basic old school designing. There is no element of surprise in the style of this MUV. It’s more or less is similar to the discontinued version of Rhino however ICML has made few changes which tries to make this car look modern. For instance, Extreme features an integrated front and rear bumper guard which makes it look aggressive while the bonnet scoop adds premium touch to this car. ICML has made sure that people conceive this car as an SUV rather than a MUV. Its false wheel arches, side steps and cladding adds masculinity to Extreme. The top variant features front fog lights, body colored door handles and outside rear view mirrors with integrated side indicators. Apart from these there are hardly any exterior changes and the car still lacks alloy wheels.

ICML Extreme Interior

The top variant of Extreme comes with dual tone colors while base model features black color only. The quality of plastic and material used inside is surely not satisfactory. The car has no sense of luxury inside and that gets clear as soon as you step inside. It looks very basic and indicates towards the cost cutting. ICML offers three different seating arrangements in Extreme and it’s your choice if you want your car to be seven, eight or nine seater. There is enough space for eight people and its best for commercial usage with seating capacity of nine people.

Comfort and Convenience

The car comes with modern features which confirms you proper comfort on long journeys. It has a powerful three row AC with all power windows and power steering. Its outside mirrors are internally adjustable and features a rear defogger for clear vision. To enhance the comfort inside, it features door armrest at its front and the back. Other features of this car include central locking, remote fuel lid opener and mobile charging point.

Dashboard and Storage

The regular dashboard houses its instrument panel and central console. The shape and appearance of plastic stuff is really disappointing and feels quite harsh when touched. There is no digitization in the instrumentation of this car. You can keep the loose stuff on this dashboard while there is also an integrated roomy glove box in it. There are many cubby holes in this car and it also features door pockets. Apart from this, it has enough space at the back despite the full seating of nine people.

Music System of ICML Extreme

Surprisingly, the top variant sports a company fitted DVD player and LCD screen in its central console. There is also a 12V accessory socket at its front which allows you to play your music gadgets directly.

Engine and Gearbox

ICML Extreme is available with two diesel engines; one of which is carried over from Rhino. ICML has used a new 2L 4 cylinder CRD-Fi engine. This engine can also be seen Chevrolet Tavera. This turbo charged engine generates a maximum power output of 120 bhp which is accessible at 4000 rpm. The torque output of 285 Nm ranges from 1750 rpm – 2500 rpm. The other engine is also a 2L DI engine which produces a peak power of 100 bhp at 3600 rpm while its maximum torque output of 240 Nm ranges from 2000- 2500 rpm. These both engines are mated with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Acceleration and Performance

Its DI engine has been tested before so let’s talk about the newly arrived CRD-Fi engine. Frankly speaking, the performance and ride ability of this car has improved a lot thanks to this new engine. This engine takes away the refinement issues which where earlier related to this car. It sounds extremely refined and performs better than many MUVs with full seating. The turbo lag is evident in slow traffic but once it gets the momentum, this car is fun to drive. ICML has also worked on the gear ratios and thanks to the increase efficiency; Extreme now has better power to weight than many other competitors. It takes around 17 seconds to complete 0-100km/hr which is quite respectable and it can easily cruise at the speed of 140km/hr.

ICML Extreme Mileage

This new engine may return an overall fuel efficiency of around 13km/ltr.

Safety Features

Sadly, there are no premium safety features in this car like ABS and airbags but it comes with side and cross car beam which makes it safe during collision.

Suspension and Braking

ICML has tuned the suspension system of this car and they claim it to be perfect for Indian road condition however we still feel this suspension system struggles to keep this car grounded at high speeds. Braking system leaves you with no complaint as its ventilated front disc brakes and rear drum brakes effectively stops this vehicle.

Ride and Handling

ICML Extreme has light handling and that’s quite effective and evident in city traffic but it’s quite disappointing on highways. The car loses its contact with road at high speeds and that’s when you wish for accurate handling. As far as ride quality is concerned we would say its suspension system digests potholes commendably but loses out to high speed and sharp corners. Despite its long wheelbase (2541mm), there is major body roll and that spoils the riding experience.

ICML Extreme Variants

ICML Extreme is available in nine variants: CRD-Fi LD (AC & PS) BS3, CRD-Fi LD (AC & PS) BS4, CRD-Fi SD BS4, CRD-Fi VD BS3, CRD-Fi VD BS4,Di VD BS3, Di SD BS3, Di LD (AC & PS) BS3 and Di LD Non-AC BS3.

ICML Extreme Warranty

ICML offers 3years/150000 kilometers warranty on Extreme.

Verdict

ICML Extreme ranges from INR 5.68 lakhs - 8.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). Frankly speaking, from the perspective of a personal user; we doubt the worthiness of this car as it lacks the style and essential features like ABS. Moreover, at this price there are other stylish MUVs like Mahindra Xylo, Quanto and Maruti Ertiga which are also stuffed with all modern features. We can only recommend this car to those who are looking for economical MUVs for commercial usage.
