About

General information and overview

The 2011 Ford Ikon sold in India is a compact four‑door sedan characterised by a sturdy chassis, driver‑focused handling and a roomy boot (around 480 litres), offered with small petrol engines (popular 1.3/1.4 RoCam versions) and a torquey TDCi diesel depending on variant; equipment levels are basic by current standards but include the essentials and simple, serviceable mechanicals. Suspension prioritises control and stability over plushness, giving confidence on highways and through corners while ground clearance is adequate for Indian roads though not exceptionally high. Interior materials and features reflect its age—trim and infotainment are utilitarian—but seating space for four adults is comfortable for daily use. When evaluating a specific 2011 Ikon I focus on service records, clutch/gearbox feel, evidence of rust or accident repair, condition of suspension bushes and brakes, and recent timing/major service items; a clean, well‑maintained example offers a satisfying, inexpensive-to-run urban and highway car for buyers who value driving dynamics and practical space over modern creature comforts.

The 2011 Ford Ikon, particularly the 1.3 TDCi, packs a 1299cc turbo-diesel engine with 68 bhp at 5500 rpm and 115 Nm torque from 2500 rpm into a compact sedan body ideal for India's narrow streets and highways. I appreciate its 45-litre tank, 482-litre boot for weekend getaways, and 5-seater cabin with decent rear legroom, high ground clearance for bad roads, and durable suspension that soaks bumps without wallow. Steering is precise for enthusiastic driving, though clutch and brakes demand adaptation; features include basic AC, power steering, and optional alloys. Production wrapped around 2011, so parts availability remains strong via aftermarket, with low maintenance if serviced regularly. For buyers, it excels in value, reliability on long runs, and space over hatchbacks, but check for engine noise and rust— a used gem at current prices for those valuing fun-to-drive dynamics in a no-nonsense package.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the 2011 Ford Ikon to be a fundamentally honest small sedan that rewards drivers who prioritise driving feel, build solidity and simple mechanicals over the latest gadgetry. The steering is precise, the chassis is well-sorted and the engine—particularly the 1.3/1.4 petrol or the TDCi diesel where applicable—gives eager mid‑range performance that makes city commutes and highway shifts engaging. Interior plastics and trim feel dated compared with modern rivals, and equipment levels are basic, but the cabin packaging is sensible with a large boot that still stands out in this segment. Ownership costs can be reasonable if you source parts carefully and service at a reputable Ford workshop, though resale tends to be weaker than equivalent Marutis and Hyundais. If you want a straightforward, durable sedan that is fun to drive and easy to live with, the Ikon is a compelling value; if you need cutting‑edge fuel economy, modern safety kit or high resale, consider alternatives.
December 17, 2025
I find the 2011 Ford Ikon a solid choice for Indian buyers seeking a reliable sedan under budget constraints, especially the 1.3 TDCi diesel variant that balances peppy performance with everyday usability on our pothole-ridden roads. Its 1.3-litre engine delivers 68 bhp and responsive turbo boost after 2000 rpm, making highway overtakes effortless while the crisp steering and sturdy suspension handle corners confidently, turning drives from Delhi to Chandigarh into breezy 3-hour affairs at 100 kmph. The 482-litre boot swallows family luggage easily, and rear space accommodates three adults comfortably with thoughtful touches like seatback storage. Build quality outshines rivals like Maruti Esteem or Tata Indigo, with parts now priced competitively to Hyundai levels, debunking old maintenance myths. Sure, the clutch feels heavy, gears notch firmly, and engine noise intrudes at idle, but these quirks fade against its value—around 6 lakhs back then for superior ride, space, and fun factor. For used buyers today, I recommend it if you prioritize driving joy and low ownership costs over modern frills; inspect rust and brakes thoroughly, as they age on salty Indian roads, but a well-kept example remains an enthusiast's delight for city commutes and long hauls alike.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

By April 2011, Ford India announced that it would not be upgrading the Ford Ikon to meet the new BS IV emission norms, leading to the discontinuation of the model. This decision was part of the companys strategy to focus on newer models. I think this was a necessary step to keep up with environmental regulations.
April 8, 2011
In February 2011, it was reported that the Ford Ikon was fading away from the Indian market, with no sales recorded in January of that year. The lack of sales was attributed to the rising competition and the need for more modern features. I believe the Ikons aged platform was a significant factor in its declining popularity.
February 8, 2011
In late 2010, Ford India introduced the NXT and Flair updates for the Ikon, which included refreshed exterior looks and new engine options. However, despite these updates, the demand for the diesel-engined Ikon remained low. I think these updates were a last-ditch effort to revive interest in the model.
December 15, 2010
By June 2010, Ford India, along with other car manufacturers, was planning to increase the prices of their vehicles due to the rising cost of raw materials. This price hike affected the Ford Ikon as well, making it less competitive in the market. I believe this price increase further reduced the Ikons appeal to budget-conscious buyers.
June 16, 2010
In April 2010, the Indian automotive market saw several new car launches and updates, including the phasing out of older models like the Ford Ikon. The Ikon, along with other older models, was unable to compete with the newer, more feature-rich vehicles. I think the Ikons inability to adapt to changing market demands was its downfall.

Price

Pricing details and changes

Ex‑showroom prices for used 2011 Ford Ikon examples in India typically vary widely by condition, variant and city—expect dealer/ex‑showroom asking prices to range roughly from about ₹1.8 lakh for high‑mileage/base examples up to ₹4.5–5.5 lakh for well‑kept, low‑run higher trims; on‑road cost will depend on state RTO charges, insurance and any dealer markup, so add roughly 6–12% for registration, insurance and handling to estimate on‑road figures for a used buy. For a private‑party purchase the cash outlay is usually the negotiated vehicle price plus transfer and insurance costs; for dealer purchases there may be small reconditioning or warranty packs that raise the effective price. My practical advice: set a realistic budget band based on documented service history and a pre‑purchase inspection—paying a modest premium for a well‑serviced, rust‑free car with recent consumables (tyres, battery, timing belt/chain if due) will save more long term than chasing the lowest sticker price.
December 17, 2025
In 2011, I saw the Ford Ikon 1.3 TDCi ex-showroom priced around 5.5-6.1 lakhs in major cities like Delhi, making it an attractive entry into diesel sedans against pricier Hyundai Accent or Fiat Linea. On-road figures, including registration, insurance, and road tax, pushed it to 6.1-6.8 lakhs, a steal for the segment's build and features like the iCool pack with AC and power windows. Today, in India's robust used market, a 2011 Ikon TDCi fetches 1.5-2.5 lakhs depending on mileage under 1 lakh km, location, and condition—cheaper in smaller towns, premium in metros. I view this as exceptional value; running costs stay low with diesel efficiency and affordable spares from Ford's widespread network, often matching Maruti's. Avoid high-mileage rustbuckets over 2 lakhs, as repair bills can spike, but at 1.8 lakhs for a serviced unit, it undercuts equivalent Swift or Dzire diesels while offering larger boot and superior handling—prime for budget-conscious families eyeing long-term savings without compromising drive quality.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

Real‑world mileage for the Ikon in Indian conditions typically falls in the 10–14 kmpl range for petrol variants in mixed city/highway use and can reach 14–18+ kmpl for the diesel TDCi depending on driving style and maintenance; expect highway figures to be noticeably better than city figures. If running costs and fuel efficiency are a priority, favour a well‑tuned diesel Ikon with documented service history or consider modern small petrols with proven economy—also factor in local diesel vs petrol price differential and likely annual kilometres when deciding.
December 17, 2025
I rate the 2011 Ikon 1.3 TDCi at 13-15 kmpl city and 18-20 kmpl highway in Indian conditions, factoring mixed traffic and fuel quality, keeping running costs under 4 Rs/km—better than petrol rivals and competitive with modern hatches for diesel thrift.

A popular midsized sedan, the Ford Ikon (whose production has been discontinued to give way to newer models) is a car that combines aesthetics with comfort and fuel efficiency.

Overview

A popular midsized sedan, the Ford Ikon (whose production has been discontinued to give way to newer models) is a car that combines aesthetics with comfort and fuel efficiency. Its stylish exterior gives any other cars of its class a run for their money and the luxurious interior makes traveling in it a great experience. It's also a powerful car that can overcome any kind of road surface, including rough and uneven terrain.

Exterior

Take a look at the exterior of the Ford Ikon and you will instantly know why it was so popular. The first thing you will probably say to the person standing next to you, "Damn! It's got the style." And it certainly has, but in a no-frills sort of way. It has a stylish front grille, stylish angular headlamps and stylish 7-spoke wheels covers. And with seamless curves around all edges, angular windows with tinted glass and 14" alloy wheels that go perfectly with the body, it has an elegant and dignified profile that will make you fall in love with at first sight. The bumpers are either black or body-colored and the rear has stylish taillight and spoiler which is optional.

Interior

Get into the Ford Ikon and you will gush about the ample passenger space, the generous headroom, the stylish and beautiful leather seats and the beige dashboard packed with advanced instruments. There is plenty of legroom for both front seat and back seat passengers to stretch their legs and the 5 passengers (including the diver) can sit comfortably without coming into physical contact with each other. The seats are wide and ultra-comfortable. The angular tinted windows keep out direct sunlight and shield you from the stare of onlookers.

Comfort and Convenience

The Ford Ikon is packed with features that make driving a car truly a great experience. Its advanced features include like air conditioner with climate control, tilt-able power steering, power windows (both front and rear seats), internally adjustable outside mirrors, tachometer, vanity mirrors, cup-holders, parking sensor and an advanced instrument panel with LCD display odometer. The car is designed for comfort and you will feel the difference as soon as you get into it.

Music System

If you are a music lover, then you will find that the Ford Ikon caters to your taste for state-of-the-art music system. The car comes with advanced FM/MP3/DVD-player audio system with 4 speakers and USB and Bluetooth® that let you connect it with your iPod, pen drive and mobile phone. The music system is placed within easy reach of the driver not far from the instrument panel on a stylish dashboard.

Engine and Gearbox

Not content with being beautiful and comfortable, the Ford Ikon is also a powerful car. Its 1.3L 1297 cc Rocam petrol engine with SEFI fuel inject system can deliver a up to 70 Bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 105 Nm at 2,500 rpm. Its 1.4L 1397 cc Duratorq Common Rail Diesel engine with TDCi fuel injection system can deliver up to 68 Bhp of power at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. The car can easily carry you over any kind of road surface, including difficult terrain. It is available in India in 5-speed transmission mode.

Acceleration and Performance

Now a car that has a powerful engine is supposed to have great acceleration and performance and the Ford Ikon will certainly not disappoint you in that department. It can accelerate from a stationary position to 100 kmph in just under 15 seconds and achieve a top speed of 160 kmph. For a midsize sedan, the fuel consumption rate is impressive. It can cover a distance of 15 km on 1 litre of petrol on the highway and 11 km on 1 litre in the city. These figures are almost on par with compact car with are fuel-efficient by their very size.

Variants and Shades

Although Ford has ceased the production of the Ford Ikon, you will still find the following variants in the Indian market: 1.3 Rocam, iKool 1.3 Rocam, 1.4 Duratorq TDCi and iKool 1.4 Duratorq TDCi. The top two are powered by 1297 cc petrol engines with manual transmission and the bottom two by 1399 cc diesel engine with manual transmission. As for body colors, you have several to choose from: paprika red, platinum, moon dust silver, brush steel, morello, diamond white and panther black.

Safety Features

What are speed and comfort without safety? The Ford Ikon is as safe as any car can get. It is equipped with advanced safety features that will keep you safe during collision and keep it safe from thieves. It is equipped with many standard safety features including front seat load limiters, collapsible steering columns, crash absorption zones, laminated glazed windscreen, anti-submarine seats, front fog lamps, day/night view mirrors, child safety rear door, central locking system, remote locking fuel filler cap and anti-theft lock with remote entry system. Disk brake in the front wheels and drum brake in the rear wheel provide excelling braking and prevent the car from skidding when driving at high speed. There are no ABS and EBD systems, however.

Reasons to Buy

It's easy to see why the Ford Ikon is so liked and loved. It's beautiful, it's classy, it's powerful, it's comfortable and it has great fuel-efficiency. Anyone who sees you driving this car will start looking at you differently. If these are not good enough to buy a car, then what is? A faster and more powerful car, perhaps. But then that will not come at the price of Ford Ikon.

Verdict

If you are looking for beauty, comfort, power and fuel-efficiency at an affordable price, then grab it as soon as it is offered to you. This car beautifully combines aesthetics with comfort and efficiency. But don't buy it if you want great resale value as well. It may not have resale value because it has ceased to be produced, but the parts will still be available and repair and maintenance will be no problem.
