General information and overview

The Freemont I review here is a seven-seat SUV derived from the Dodge Journey lineage, offering a genuinely usable third row, sliding/ folding second-row seats and generous cabin storage that suit Indian family needs; powertrain choices internationally include efficient multi-jet diesels and turbo petrols with manual and automatic gearboxes plus front-wheel or all-wheel drive, while features across trims cover multi-zone climate control, touchscreen infotainment, modern safety kit and multiple airbags to meet family safety expectations.

The Freemont is a full‑size, three‑row SUV derived from the Dodge Journey lineage, positioned to deliver genuine seven‑seat utility with a flexible second row, foldable third row and abundant cabin storage that suits family needs and long trips in India. Engine choices internationally have centred on 2.0‑litre MultiJet diesels (different tunes around 140–170 PS) with manual and automatic transmissions and optional AWD, while newer iterations mention petrol and hybrid choices depending on market; local Indian availability of specific variants and engines should be confirmed with Fiat India. The interior focuses on comfort and functionality rather than outright luxury, offering features such as touchscreen infotainment, multi‑zone climate control and a comprehensive safety package in higher trims, while the chassis prioritises a compliant ride suitable for Indian road surfaces. Ownership considerations I highlight for India are parts/service network reach, expected CBU premium if applicable, and variant availability — all of which should be validated at the dealer to ensure the Freemont meets your space, equipment and running‑cost requirements before purchase.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I find the Fiat Freemont to be a compelling choice for Indian buyers seeking a spacious, family-focused SUV that prioritises practicality and comfort over sporty dynamics; its three-row seating, flexible interior packaging and rich feature list make it ideal for long highway runs and multi-person use while the ride tuning soaks up rough Indian roads confidently, though buyers should factor in limited Fiat service footprint in some cities and possibly higher CBU/parts costs which temper ownership appeal.

I find the Fiat Freemont to be a roomy, comfort-focused seven‑seater that prioritises family practicality and long‑distance composure over sporty driving dynamics. I appreciate the flexible seating, genuine third row and extensive storage which make it genuinely useful for large families and weekend trips. The ride is tuned for comfort and the suspension soaks up imperfect Indian roads well, though steering feel and handling remain neutral rather than engaging. Higher trims bring useful tech and safety kit — multi‑zone climate control, a large touchscreen, multiple airbags and stability systems — which helps the Freemont compete with rivals on equipment levels. My concern for India is dealer and service network depth and parts availability if Fiat support is limited locally, which affects ownership convenience and long‑term cost. Overall, I would recommend the Freemont to buyers who value space, practicality and comfort above sporty performance, provided they confirm local sales, service support and trim/engine availability for India before committing.

Price

Pricing details and changes

I estimate ex-showroom pricing in major Indian cities would sit in the mid-to-upper premium SUV bracket given Freemont’s CBU/CKD positioning and equipment level—expect an ex-showroom range roughly between ₹18–26 lakh depending on trim and drivetrain, with on-road prices typically adding registration, insurance and state taxes to push totals to about ₹20–30 lakh in metropolitan areas; high-spec trims, AWD or hybrid/powerful petrol options drive the top-end price up further. In my view that pricing places the Freemont against well-established rivals where Fiat’s pros—space and features—must outweigh concerns about aftersales reach and resale values before I’d recommend buying.
December 12, 2025
Official Indian pricing for the 2025 Freemont has varied in reports and some markets show CBU positioning in the Rs 16–22 lakh band, but Fiat’s India launch pricing and exact variant‑wise ex‑showroom figures have not been universally published for 2025 India-specific retail yet. Based on typical CBU pricing and equipment levels, I would expect ex‑showroom prices in major Indian cities to start in the mid‑teens lakh range for base diesel 2.0 variants and rise into the high teens or low‑20s lakh for higher trims and AWD or petrol/hybrid options, with on‑road prices (including RTO, insurance and taxes) adding roughly 8–12% in smaller states and 10–15% in metros depending on registration slab and insurance choices. When I assess value, I weigh the Freemont’s generous space and kit against expected premium for CBU/spec imports and potential service network limitations; that premium can be acceptable if you need true seven‑seat practicality and full safety kit, but less attractive if running costs, easy servicing and low initial price are your priorities.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

Real-world diesel Freemont variants are likely to return around 12–16 kmpl in mixed Indian driving, while petrol and more powerful engine or AWD variants will be noticeably thirstier; if running costs and fuel efficiency are a priority, prioritise the diesel/manual configuration and check local service/support costs to confirm long-term practicality.
December 12, 2025
Real‑world diesel Freemont figures internationally are reported around 14–16 kmpl on mixed driving (roughly 6–7 L/100 km) depending on engine tune and drive configuration, while petrol or higher‑power variants will be noticeably thirstier. For India buyers I advise assuming conservative diesel economy near 12–14 kmpl in city use and 14–17 kmpl on highways and to factor fuel, service accessibility and potential premium for imported parts into running‑cost comparisons before buying.

It is a rebranded version of Dodge Journey and the Dodge journey itself only costs about $30k, which is 18 lakh rupees. Its a huge rip off in my opinion
