General information and overview

The 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a retro‑styled café racer built around a 648cc air‑oil cooled parallel‑twin engine that makes 47 bhp and 42 Nm of torque, paired to a smooth 6‑speed gearbox. It shares its platform with the Interceptor 650 but stands out with clip‑on handlebars, rear‑set footpegs, and a single‑seat café racer stance, giving it a sportier, more aggressive look and riding position. The chassis is rigid and well‑sorted, with a 55.1‑inch wheelbase and 24‑degree rake, delivering sharp, confidence‑inspiring handling on Indian roads. Suspension consists of non‑adjustable telescopic forks up front and twin rear shocks with preload adjustment, while braking is handled by a 320mm front disc and 240mm rear disc with dual‑channel ABS. It runs on 18‑inch wheels with 100/90‑18 and 130/70‑18 tyres, and the seat height is around 800mm, making it accessible to a wide range of riders. With its classic twin‑clock dashboard, three‑year unlimited‑mileage warranty, and strong build quality, the Continental GT 650 is a stylish, fun, and practical choice for riders who want a modern classic with real character.

The 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT is powered by a new 648cc air/oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing around 47 horsepower and 52 Nm of torque, delivering smooth and manageable power for both city commuting and open roads. It features a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch for crisp shifts, EFI for better fuel delivery, and a robust frame designed to enhance handling precision. The suspension setup includes non-adjustable front forks and twin rear shocks with preload adjustment, offering a balance between ride comfort and sporty handling. Safety comes via front and rear disc brakes with Bosch ABS. With a wet weight of about 202 kg and a 3.5-litre fuel tank, the GT combines classic looks and modern features to appeal to enthusiasts who want a distinctive, fun-to-ride motorcycle that stands apart in the mid-size segment.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a stylish, characterful café racer that blends retro charm with modern reliability, making it a compelling choice in India’s mid‑sized cruiser segment. Its 648cc parallel‑twin engine delivers smooth, linear power with strong low‑end and mid‑range torque, perfect for city commutes and weekend rides on twisty roads. The riding posture is sportier than the Interceptor 650, with clip‑ons and rear‑set footpegs, giving it a true café racer feel, though long highway stints can get tiring. Handling is sharp and confidence‑inspiring, with a rigid frame and precise steering, while the non‑adjustable suspension copes well with Indian roads but can feel a bit bouncy on broken patches. Braking is adequate with dual‑channel ABS, though hardcore riders may want to upgrade pads later. Fit and finish are impressive for the price, and the three‑year unlimited‑mileage warranty adds peace of mind. For someone wanting a stylish, fun, and reliable motorcycle with a classic vibe and modern performance, the Continental GT 650 remains a strong contender in the Indian market.
December 6, 2025
The 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT stands out as a compelling modern café racer with authentic retro styling, a tuneful 648cc parallel-twin engine, and well-sorted handling that offers enjoyable urban and weekend rides. The bike impresses with a planted chassis and predictable braking aided by Bosch ABS, making it confidence-inspiring on twisty roads. While it’s not a high-performance machine, the Continental GT delivers more power and refinement than its predecessor without compromising its classic character. Minor compromises, such as non-adjustable front forks and a firm seat, keep the price accessible but don’t detract significantly from the overall experience. The sportier riding position with clip-on handlebars suits enthusiasts who appreciate a café racer’s vibe rather than outright comfort on long trips. It’s a motorcycle that merges vintage appeal with modern reliability and service intervals, making it a great option for riders who want style and substance combined in one package.

In 2022, a used 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 with only 1,077 miles was listed for $5250, which is a significant discount from the new price. However, it lacked the warranty that comes with a new bike.

Royal Enfields focus on quality and reliability has been highlighted through the rigorous testing and inspection process for the Continental GT 650. Each bike is inspected by a dedicated individual, ensuring high standards are met. I believe this commitment to quality will pay off in the long run.
March 8, 2022
The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 3.3 gallons and an estimated fuel consumption of 70 mpg, although real-world tests have shown around 51-60 mpg. This makes it a decent choice for both city riding and highway cruising.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 was launched with an ex‑showroom price in the range of ₹2.90 lakh to ₹3.10 lakh, depending on the city and variant. On‑road prices, including RTO registration, insurance, and other local taxes, typically landed between ₹3.30 lakh and ₹3.60 lakh across major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. Compared to rivals in the 650cc segment, this pricing was aggressive, offering a lot of motorcycle for the money. The value proposition is strong, especially with the three‑year unlimited‑mileage warranty, which is rare in this segment and significantly reduces long‑term ownership anxiety. For a buyer in India, this means lower effective cost of ownership, fewer worries about roadside issues, and better resale value over time. While newer models and updates may have slightly higher prices, the 2019 GT 650 still represents a smart buy in the used market, where it offers premium looks, a twin‑cylinder engine, and Royal Enfield’s reliability at a very accessible price point.

In India, the 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 was launched with an ex-showroom price in the range of approximately ₹2.5 lakh to ₹2.9 lakh, depending on the city. On-road prices vary by state due to differing tax structures but typically come close to ₹3 lakh to ₹3.3 lakh inclusive of RTO registration, insurance, and road tax. This pricing positioned the Continental GT as a premium yet attainable option within the mid-capacity motorcycle market, offering the nostalgic café racer experience at a competitive price compared to other 650cc twin motorcycles in India. The price reflects its retro styling, engine capacity, and solid build quality. For buyers in India, this means you get a well-rounded motorcycle with modern technology like fuel injection, Bosch ABS, and a durable engine plus good dealer support across the country, all within a package that balances heritage and performance without entering the more expensive performance bike segment.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The 2019 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 returns a real‑world mileage of around 28–32 kmpl in mixed city and highway riding in Indian conditions. In pure city traffic with frequent stops, it can drop to 25–27 kmpl, while steady highway cruising at 80–90 kmph can push it close to 34–35 kmpl. This makes it reasonably efficient for a 650cc twin‑cylinder motorcycle, especially when compared to larger performance bikes. For a buyer concerned about running costs, the GT 650 strikes a good balance between performance and fuel economy, with manageable fuel bills and low maintenance costs thanks to Royal Enfield’s widespread service network and affordable spare parts.
December 6, 2025
The 2019 Continental GT delivers an average mileage of about 30 to 35 km/l in typical Indian city and highway conditions. While not the most fuel-efficient bike in its segment, the parallel-twin engine’s smoothness and decent fuel economy make it an acceptable choice for riders focused on style and spirited riding rather than pure running cost efficiency. For buyers prioritizing mileage, it offers reasonable running costs but keep in mind that its premium feel and performance edge come at a slight fuel-efficiency trade-off compared to smaller single-cylinder Royal Enfields.
