General information and overview

The Mahindra Pantero is a 106.7cc air-cooled, single-cylinder commuter motorcycle built for practical, no-nonsense city riding in India. It uses Mahindra’s in-house MCi-5 engine that produces about 8.4–8.5 bhp and 8.5 Nm of torque, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox and shaft drive for low maintenance. The chassis is a steel double cradle type, with telescopic front forks and a 5-step adjustable rear suspension, offering a comfortable ride for both rider and pillion thanks to its long 774 mm seat. Braking is handled by 130 mm drum units at both ends, and the bike runs on spoked wheels with a 13.7–14 litre fuel tank. Variants range from a basic kick-start model to higher trims with self-start and alloy wheels, all positioned as budget-friendly commuters. While it lacks modern safety and tech features, its fuel efficiency, long seat and shaft drive make it a pragmatic choice for those who need a simple, reliable bike for daily use.

The Mahindra Pantero is a 106.7cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled commuter bike designed primarily for fuel-efficient urban and semi-urban mobility. It features Mahindra’s in-house MCi-5 engine producing around 8.38 bhp and 8.5 Nm torque, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The Pantero’s lightweight build at approximately 120 kg and a long 774 mm seat length improve handling and comfort for both rider and pillion. It has telescopic front suspension and adjustable rear coil springs that offer decent ride comfort on Indian roads. Fuel capacity stands at 14 liters, supporting longer distances between refueling. Braking is managed through combined braking system (CBS) on drum brakes in most variants, enhancing safety modestly. The instrument cluster is digital or analogue depending on variant, without advanced connectivity features. The bike is suitable for those prioritizing fuel economy, reliability, and affordable maintenance over high-end features, targeting the budget commuter segment in India.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Mahindra Pantero is a no-frills, practical commuter bike that makes sense for budget-conscious buyers in India who need reliable daily transport. It runs on a 106.7cc air-cooled single-cylinder MCi-5 engine that delivers around 8.4–8.5 bhp and 8.5 Nm of torque, which is decent for city riding but not particularly exciting on highways. The 4-speed manual gearbox is simple and durable, while the shaft drive reduces maintenance hassles. The chassis is a basic steel double cradle, and the suspension setup is functional rather than plush. Braking is via 130 mm drum units at both ends, which is adequate for low-speed city use but not confidence-inspiring at higher speeds. The seat is long and comfortable for both rider and pillion, and the 13.7–14 litre fuel tank offers good range. However, it misses out on modern features like electric start in the base variant, ABS, and digital instrumentation in most trims. For someone who wants a rugged, easy-to-maintain bike for short to medium commutes and doesn’t care much for performance or tech, the Pantero still holds relevance as a utilitarian choice.
December 6, 2025
The Mahindra Pantero stands out in the 110cc commuter segment for its solid engine performance and commendable fuel efficiency. With a 106.7cc air-cooled MCi-5 engine delivering 8.38 bhp, it offers a strong power-to-weight ratio that makes city riding and occasional highway runs enjoyable. Its excellent mileage, claimed at 79.4 kmpl by ARAI, promises low running costs, a critical factor for budget-conscious buyers. The bike’s ride quality benefits from telescopic front suspension and a 5-step adjustable coil spring rear setup, balancing comfort and control. However, the lack of advanced features such as ABS, digital connectivity, or a self-start in some variants may deter those looking for modern refinements. The Pantero’s robust build featuring a double cradle tubular steel chassis and 14-liter fuel tank are practical assets for daily commuting. Overall, it’s a strong contender for buyers wanting a reliable, fuel-efficient, and fairly powerful bike in a competitive price segment, though it doesn’t offer premium tech or safety features seen in rivals.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

Mahindra has discontinued the Pantero and Duro DZ models from their lineup, marking the end of an era for these bikes. This move is part of the companys strategy to focus on more profitable and popular models. I think this decision will help Mahindra streamline their product offerings and concentrate on what works best for them.
March 11, 2023
The Mahindra Pantero was available in four variants: T1, T2, T3, and T4, each with different features such as self-start, kick start, alloy wheels, and spoke wheels. The T1 variant was the most loaded, featuring a digital speedometer and self-start. I believe the variety in variants helped cater to different customer preferences.
February 16, 2022
Mahindra Two Wheelers launched the Pantero 110 across four states in India: Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. The bike was priced starting from Rs. 44,690 for the base T4 variant. This phased launch was part of their strategy to test market response before a wider rollout.
January 20, 2022
The Mahindra Pantero 110 boasted several first-in-class features, including a fully digital speedometer, LED pilot lamps, and an aircraft-type fuel filler cap. It also had the longest seat in its class, which was a significant advantage for riders and pillions. I think these features made it a compelling option in the commuter segment.
December 11, 2021
The Pantero 110 was powered by a 107cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder MCI-5 engine that delivered 8.5 PS at 7,500 rpm and 8.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. It had an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 79.4 kmpl, making it a fuel-efficient choice. I believe the engines performance was quite impressive for its segment.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Mahindra Pantero was last recorded in India with an ex-showroom price range of ₹39,650 to ₹43,150 for the base and top variants respectively, in Delhi. These prices are from the earlier generation of the Pantero and reflect a very budget-friendly positioning in the commuter bike segment. On-road prices would have varied between ₹44,000 and ₹48,000 depending on the city, registration charges, insurance, and road tax components. The base variant came with kick start, spoked wheels and an analogue instrument cluster, while higher trims offered self-start, alloy wheels and a digital console. Even at that price point, the Pantero competed with entry-level 100–110cc bikes from Hero, Bajaj and Honda. From a value perspective, it offered a long seat, decent tank capacity and shaft drive, which are positives for a budget commuter. However, the lack of modern safety features like disc brakes and ABS, along with dated styling and performance, makes it a less compelling choice today compared to newer, more feature-rich options in a similar price bracket.
December 6, 2025
The Mahindra Pantero’s ex-showroom price in India typically ranges from approximately ₹44,000 to ₹49,000 depending on the variant and city. On-road prices vary around ₹48,000 to ₹53,000 inclusive of taxes, insurance, registration, and dealer charges. This positions it competitively against popular 110cc commuter motorcycles from major manufacturers. Its pricing reflects its value proposition as an affordable, fuel-efficient commuter with decent power output rather than a feature-loaded bike. In metro cities, the on-road cost can be slightly higher due to increased taxes and insurance. Its budget-friendly pricing along with low maintenance demands makes it attractive for first-time buyers, daily commuters, and those looking for a dependable city-runner without luxury frills. Given the segment dynamics, the Pantero offers good cost-effectiveness, though buyers seeking premium features or ABS will have to explore pricier alternatives.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The Mahindra Pantero is claimed to deliver around 70–79 kmpl on paper, with ARAI figures quoted near 79.4 kmpl for the 110cc version. In real-world Indian city and mixed riding conditions, a realistic mileage figure is closer to 50–60 kmpl, which is still quite efficient for daily commuting. The 13.7–14 litre fuel tank gives a practical riding range of around 650–700 km on a full tank, reducing refuelling stops. For someone prioritising low running costs and high fuel efficiency over performance and features, the Pantero’s mileage makes it a sensible choice for long-term ownership, especially in heavy traffic and short-distance city use.
December 6, 2025
The Pantero’s ARAI-rated mileage of 79.4 kmpl is outstanding and among the best in the 110cc commuter category in India. For buyers focused on running costs and fuel economy, this makes the Pantero an exceptionally cost-effective choice for city and highway use. Real-world mileage may vary based on riding conditions, but it will generally remain high, helping reduce frequent fuel stops and overall ownership expenses.
