General information and overview

The Hyosung GT125R is a discontinued sportbike tailored for Indian enthusiasts, featuring a punchy 124cc oil-cooled DOHC 8-valve V-twin engine producing 14.2 BHP at 10500 rpm and 9.7 Nm at 10000 rpm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox for lively acceleration up to 110 kmph top speed. Its full fairing, dual disc brakes, tubeless tires on 17-inch wheels (110/70 front, 150/70 rear), 830mm seat height, 130mm ground clearance, 1445mm wheelbase, and 166kg kerb weight deliver sporty ergonomics and stability, with a generous 17-litre tank for range. Available in colours like red, black, and white, it was priced around Rs 1.25 lakh ex-showroom, offering unique twin-cylinder thrills in the 125cc segment via former DSK Hyosung outlets. Ideal for skilled riders wanting premium looks and performance over basic commuting, though its weight suits open roads better than congested traffic; check used availability for this standout Korean import.

The GT125R is a full‑fairing 125cc motorcycle built around a distinctive 125cc oil‑cooled 8‑valve V‑twin that makes roughly 14 PS and is tuned for high‑rev performance, paired to a 5‑speed gearbox, alloy wheels and disc brakes front and rear; it features a relatively tall 830 mm seat, a fuel tank sized for longer rides (reports suggest a large tank compared with typical 125s), and a kerb/dry weight on the heavier side for the segment which gives a planted feel at speed but compromises low‑speed agility, and historically Hyosung models in India have appealed to buyers seeking unique styling and a more motorcycle‑centric feel rather than the lowest purchase or service cost, so check local availability of spares, dealer support and test-ride the specific year/variant to confirm fit, ergonomics and the riding character you want before deciding.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I've ridden many 125cc bikes in India, and the Hyosung GT125R stands out with its unique oil-cooled 124cc DOHC 8-valve V-twin engine delivering 14.2 BHP at 10500 rpm and 9.7 Nm at 10000 rpm, offering thrilling high-revving performance that punches above its displacement for spirited city sprints and occasional highway jaunts. The full fairing, disc brakes front and rear, tubeless tires on 17-inch alloys, and 17-litre fuel tank give it a premium sportbike look and feel that's rare in this segment, turning heads on Indian roads while providing stable handling despite the 166kg kerb weight. At around Rs 1.25 lakh ex-showroom, it's a discontinued gem if you find a used one, ideal for enthusiasts craving twin-cylinder character without stepping up to pricier 250cc options like the old GT250R. However, its heft demands confident riding skills, especially in traffic-heavy metros, and parts availability could be spotty post-discontinuation, so factor in service network checks. For me, it's a rewarding buy for performance lovers willing to maintain a niche Korean import, delivering unmatched excitement in the 125cc space for weekend thrills and daily usability.

I find the Hyosung GT125R to be an intriguing choice for buyers who prioritise distinctive styling and a sporty twin-cylinder character in a 125cc package; the bike delivers sharp looks, a high-revving oil-cooled V‑twin that feels eager on open roads, and a planted road presence thanks to its relatively substantial weight and wide tyres, but I would caution buyers that its heavier feel, limited dealer/service footprint historically in India, and potentially higher long‑term running and spare-parts costs compared with mainstream Indian 125cc models make it a better fit for riders seeking personality and touring comfort rather than the lowest ownership cost or easiest aftercare.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The Hyosung GT125R is popular among riders who are looking for a balance between performance and affordability. The bikes 125cc engine, while not the most powerful, offers a fun and manageable ride, especially for beginners. I think its an excellent choice for those new to motorcycling.

In the realm of performance upgrades, owners of the Hyosung GT125R often opt for modifications such as aftermarket exhausts and carburetor tweaks to enhance the bikes performance. However, these modifications can sometimes have mixed results, as seen in a recent video where an owner noted that an aftermarket air filter made the bike sound worse. I believe its crucial to carefully consider and test any modifications before implementing them.

For those looking to purchase a Hyosung GT125R, it is advised to thoroughly inspect the bike, especially if it is a used model. Checking the engine compression, valve condition, and overall service history is essential. Additionally, ensuring the clutch is in good condition can prevent future issues. I think buying a well-maintained older model can be a great value.
June 24, 2024
When it comes to accessories and aftermarket parts, the Hyosung GT125R has a wide range of options available, including custom exhausts, upgraded chain kits, and performance air filters. These accessories can enhance both the performance and the aesthetic appeal of the bike. I think choosing the right accessories can significantly improve the riding experience.

In restoration projects, the Hyosung GT125R has been a favorite among enthusiasts due to its simplicity and the availability of parts. Projects often involve fixing wiring issues, replacing exhaust systems, and performing general maintenance to bring the bike back to its original condition. I believe these projects can be very rewarding for DIY enthusiasts.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Hyosung GT125R carried an ex-showroom price of approximately Rs 1.25 lakh when available, positioning it as a premium offering in the 125cc sportbike category, significantly higher than mass-market commuters like the Yamaha FZ or Honda Shine but justified by its V-twin engine and full-faired design. On-road prices, including RTO, insurance, and taxes, would typically push it to Rs 1.35-1.45 lakh depending on the state—higher in Delhi or Mumbai due to elevated road tax rates around 10-12%, versus lower in states like Karnataka at 8-10%. I've seen used models listed around Rs 90,000-1.25 lakh on platforms, reflecting its discontinued status, which means negotiating bargains but verifying condition is key. This pricing made it compete with entry-level faired bikes like the Yamaha R15, yet its rarity added exclusivity; for budget-conscious buyers, the value shines in performance per rupee if you prioritize thrill over economy. I recommend scouting authorized DSK Hyosung dealers for remaining stock or certified pre-owned to avoid inflated grey-market premiums, ensuring long-term ownership costs stay manageable with proactive maintenance.
December 12, 2025
Current market listings and price reports place the Hyosung GT125/GT125R in India around the ₹90,000–₹1,30,000 ex-showroom band historically and in more recent informal listings (varies by source and model year), which translates to an approximate on-road price in most Indian metros of about ₹1.05–₹1.45 lakh after state taxes, insurance and registration are included; however, actual on-road pricing will vary by city, insurance choice and any available dealer discounts, and because Hyosung’s presence and stock levels have fluctuated in India, buyers should expect limited new-stock availability and to budget a premium for dealer sourcing or reliable used examples if new units are not listed locally.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I find the GT125R's 40 kmpl real-world mileage in Indian conditions solid for its high-revving V-twin, covering 680km per tank with the 17-litre capacity, keeping running costs low at about Rs 2.50/km on Rs 100/litre fuel—better than many sportier rivals, making it a smart pick for mileage-focused buyers seeking performance without excessive refills.
December 12, 2025
Real-world reports and specifications for the GT125R indicate around 35–40 kmpl under steady cruising, while mixed urban commuting will lower that figure, so if you prioritise low running cost and frequent city-only use a mainstream single‑cylinder 125/150 with wider service networks will likely give lower ownership costs than this twin-cylinder Hyosung.

no doubt honda is no 1 in bikes but it cannot take indain people for granted...if it cannot bring twin cylinder vtr250...hyosung will bring gt 125 or gt 250...hyosung is developed on suzuki technology so no worries...if hyosung goes honda way by bringing same 125 and 250 single cylider bikes it will fail badly...

this is much powerfull bike than cbr ...common sense its twin engine and it can beat any indian bike under its segment...if tuned this will sound like formula bike ...just listen to the 250 ninja or gtr 250 with special exhaust ...than you willl forget honda 1 cylinder engines in indian market...
