The compact sedan segment raises its bar with the all new Volkswagen Ameo in the competition. It brings along some new benchmarks and officially gets a petrol engine initially, putting the surprising new diesel configuration in the box for some time. The prices for the car starts at INR 5,24,300 while the top end costs INR 7,05,900. The car comes in 3 variants and offers the option between Metallic as well as Non-Metallic paints on the 2 lower variants.
The car is powered by a 1.2 L, 3-cylinder MPI motor producing 75 BHP @ 5400 rpm and 110 Nm @ 3750 rpm. It has no option of a DSG at present as the 5-speed manual transmission is the only available gearbox on the car presently. It measures 3995 mm in length and uses the Polo's underpinnings.
It uses a different headlight pattern and retains everything else as the new 2016 Polo. Volkswagen will successfully bridge the gap between Polo and Vento visually but the actual difference would always be present in the form of that cramped wheelbase on the lower ones. Ameo would cater the needs of those who are satisfied with just the top notch quality and are looking for a petrol compact sedan with premium features like cruise control, reverse parking camera and sensors, rear AC vents and a touchscreen infotainment system.
