Toyota recently launched its much-anticipated pickup truck, Hilux, in the Indian market. At present, the Hilux’s entry-level 4X4 MT standard variant is available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 33.99 lakh. The 4x4 MT High and 4x4 AT High are offered at an ex-showroom price of Rs 35.80 lakh and Rs 36.80 lakh, respectively.

As for body dimensions, the Hilux is 5,325mm in length, 1,825mm in width, and 1,815mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,085mm. While the towing capacity of the pickup is 2.2 to 2.5 tonnes, Offered in a total of five vibrant colours called Emotional Red, White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Super White and Grey Metallic, the new pickup gets an appealing design.

In terms of features, the 2022 Hilux comes loaded with automatic LED headlamps, LED fog lamps and taillights, dual-zone climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, engine push-button start-stop, and 60:40 rear split seats, to name a few. For the safety of passengers, the maker has offered the SUV seven airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a rear parking camera, and so on.

To enhance its off-roading abilities, the manufacturer has offered the Hilux features like a low-range transfer gearbox, electronic differential lock, automatic limited-slip differential, hill descent control, and a water wading depth of 700mm. The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross may appear to be the Hilux’s main rival, but it lacks the Hilux’s features, is less powerful, and is far less expensive.

Mechanically, the 2022 Toyota Hilux is powered by Fortuner's 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine which generates 204hp and 420Nm of torque (500Nm in the case of the automatic model). Just like the Fortuner SUV, the gearbox options on the Hilux include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
