Collectors are willing to pay anything when it comes to a unique license plate. Balwinder Sahani, also known as Abu Sabah has bought a license plate for 33 Million Dirhams (INR 60 Crore / US$ 9 million). Owner of RSG International, the real estate tycoon from Dubai now owns the license plate 'D5'. Sahani has bought the number plate for one of his Rolls Royce cars.
The owner of the number plate has business spread over UAE, Kuwait, US and India while this one would be his 11th Special number plate for the collection. These auctions are held in Dubai after every 2 months and the money goes to road and transport authority. The actual bid value started at 20 Million Dirhams.
The auction was nothing less than a fierce fight with over 300 bidders in total. There were 80 unique numbers on option, ranging between one to five digits. License plate auctions are one of the prime sources of income for the authorities and even the best way to make money through trading them in the later stage.
"This is easily the biggest auction we have seen so far. The hall is packed with participants as well as those who have come to learn the trade and enjoy," said, Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency.
