Renault has finally launched its much-awaited hatchback in the Indian market by the name of 'Renault Kwid'. Yes, Kwid is all set to raise the market shares of the company by attracting buyers with its amazing feature list and exterior look. It has been offered at a very attractive starting price of Rs 2.56 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It seems that company also believes that festive season is the best time to do business in India.
They have successfully created a lot of buzz before launch. It was first showcased as a concept at 2014 Delhi Auto Show, though its recent look is not similar to that model. Renault's design team has done really good job on this hatchback. The car comes with both crossover and SUV's elements. Exterior features of the car are bold structured grille with badged logo, black cladding, stylish headlights with C-shaped chrome trim, front and rear overhangs, muscular front and squared off wheel arches.
On the inside, the higher trim gets a piano Black interior with 7-inch touchscreen MediaNAV system supporting Bluetooth, front power windows, three-spoke steering wheel, all-digital instrument cluster and powerful AC and a lot more. Mechanically, Renault KWID comes powered by a 799cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine which generates a maximum 53.2BHP of power at 5678 rpm and 72NM of torque at 4386 rpm. It is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. The ARAI-rated fuel mileage claimed by the company is 25.17 km/l.
In future, it is also expected to come in 1.0-litre engine with automatic transmission. Measurement wise, it has a length of 3,769mm, width of 1,579mm, height of 1,478mm and the car has a wheelbase of 2,422mm. It packs a fuel tank capability of 28-litre and ground clearance of 180mm. The bookings of this Mini SUV have already begun. As of now, the hatchback segment is dominated by Maruti Alto 800; it will be interesting to see how well Renault Kwid will perform in India.
