Honda is one of the country’s most popular two-wheeler brands, and now to expand its current portfolio and give it a refresh, the company is actively working on new India-spec models. The manufacturer intends to add new 350cc motorcycles in coming years to compete with the two-wheeler segment giant Royal Enfield. The company wishes to continue rivalling the segment leader, Royal Enfield. As per the latest media report, one of the company’s senior officials told that new models in the mid-CC sector would be released sooner or later.

Moreover, the number of bikes in the 350cc-500cc class is expected to grow every year. Currently, the Japanese manufacturer sells two 350cc bikes, the CB350 and the CB350RS, and one 500cc motorcycle, the CB500X. While the 350cc series had a successful start, the CB500X failed to captivate the market owing to its high price. If the brand genuinely wants to make a huge difference in the 350cc-500cc categories, it must introduce great products at a reasonable price.

Because of its niche market positioning, Royal Enfield has generally remained unmatched in India. The brand specialises in retro-styled bikes and had no direct competitors prior to the arrival of Jawa. But, as competition heats up, there are more bikes available in the same price range as Royal Enfield offerings, and Honda wants a piece of that pie as well.

Honda has previously declared plans to introduce a Royal Enfield rival in India in 2017, but the proposal was shelved owing to cost concerns. Also, the brand will produce the new motorcycle in the country instead of selling the CKD import. If Honda offered the motorcycles with good price and quality, it seems to have a good chance of gaining momentum in the segment. However, it will not be easy to find purchasers due to Royal Enfield’s loyal following.
