Previously we reported that Mahindra Thar 700 Signature Edition is in the making and the brand will launch it in the coming weeks. Now Autocar India brings us a set of new leaked photos which reveal a lot of information about the upcoming Thar. Only 700 units of the Signature Edition would be available and it will come in two shades: Napoli Black, and Aqua Marine. Article image Mahindra Thar 700 will get black decals on the bonnet lid and silver finish on the front bumper as a part of the special package. The SUV will also get a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge on its fenders with the signature of Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group. The car will also get unique leatherette seat covers with Thar branding. Like the recent models of the Thar, the signature edition Thar 700 will also feature ABS. But the current-gen Thar does not comply with India’s latest crash safety norms, making it ineligible for sale post-October 1, 2019. The base variant Thar Di has already been discontinued, leaving the 2.5-litre CRDe diesel engine to be the only choice for the buyers. Article image Mechanically, the Thar 700 will be sold with the 2.5-litre CRDe engine which would come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is good for a maximum power of 105 Bhp at 3800 rpm and a maximum torque figure of 247 Nm at 1800-2000 rpm. The Signature Edition will feature five-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels which were seen on other Mahindra’s models like previous gen Scorpio and the Marksman. Company has also started working on second-gen Mahindra Thar which is expected to make its debut at Auto Expo in February 2020. Initially, the second-gen Thar will get a new 140 HP or 120 HP diesel engine, as Mahindra is looking at expanding the Thar’s portfolio by adding a petrol engine at a later stage. Article image We can expect the 2020 model of Mahindra Thar to be more refined and silent on the inside, with better insulation to avoid vibrations and heat, and better at blocking out road noise too. The upcoming car will seek competition from the all-new Force Gurkha, which is likely to mark its debut at 2020 Auto Expo. Well, it is expected that the company will soon commence bookings for the Signature Edition Thar 700 in the Indian market at select Mahindra dealerships.
