The 2021 model of the Fiat 500 La Prima, an electric version of the Fiat 500 hatchback has been recently revealed by the brand globally. At present, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) only concentrates on selling the Jeep-branded vehicles in India. As per one of the recent updates, the brand could launch the Fiat 500 electric hatchback in the Indian market in the coming months.
The president and managing director at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India, Partha Datta, recently said: "We’ve got an electric Wrangler coming and we just unveiled the new Fiat 500 EV in Europe; so, we have the products, and we can bring them to India if the infrastructure is in place and there is sufficient demand."
So as the brand has announced, the launch of an EV for the Indian market will strictly depend upon the status of charging and manufacturing infrastructures. Unlike the previous-gen models of the Fiat 500, the new-gen version of the car would be available only with an electric powertrain.
The 2021 Fiat 500 La Prima is quite futuristic and it has bigger dimensions when compared to the outgoing model of the vehicle. Going by the design, the Fiat 500 EV does not look much different from its previous-gen model. Mechanically, the car has been equipped with an electric motor of 87kW capacity with a 42kWh Li-ion battery pack.
The new-gen Fiat EV has a driving range of 320 km on a single charge and it can go from 0-100 kmph in just 9.0 seconds. It goes from 0-50 kmph in 3.1 seconds and the top speed of the car stands at 150 kmph which is quite good. The brand has equipped the vehicle with an 85 kW DC fast charger which can juice up the battery to up to 80% in just 35 minutes. With only 5 minutes of charge, the EV can provide a driving range of 50 km.
Fiat 500 La Prima comes in a pack with ample features that include Level 2 autonomous driving, front-facing camera monitoring technology, leather seats, 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with UConnect 5, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If launched in India, the all-electric hatchback would most probably be bought via a CBU route. In terms of pricing, the car is priced at €37,900 (INR 31.55 lakh, direct conversion) in Europe.
