Will the R1300GSA's added power make it too much for a beginner?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
With a massive power boost over its predecessor, the BMW R1300GS Adventure is not for everyone, and not just because of its price. However, the GS series has always been a bike for someone to cut their teeth on while still riding something large, and the increased performance of the R1300GSA could scare some new to larger adventure bikes. The new model does have advanced rider aids and customizable power modes, it might actually make it [manageable]. But there is still debate about whether these electronic assists make a more powerful bike easier to handle for beginners, or just cover up the difficulties until they come to a head. But more broadly, this question brings up the issue of whether or not motorcycle technology is lowering the learning curve for new riders of large displacement bikes.

It's more intermediate friendly now, I'd say. A big adventure bike, great for second bike owners looking to step up.

It's all about self-control. Beginners need to respect the power, and learn gradually – the bike has the tech to keep you safe.

It’s not dramatic power increase. If you can handle a R1250GSA, you’re fine on the 1300.

I would not recommend any GSA model to true beginners. Regardless of the tech, start smaller and work your way up.

For beginners, the R1300GSA is still fine, but they should start at the low power modes and work their way up.

It's definitely not the most beginner friendly. More power equals more responsibility and new riders can get in over their heads.

Not at all! In actuality, the new rider modes and improved traction control make it easier for beginners to control the power.
