What would be the most worthwhile upgrade for the FZ09?

Powerful engine, agile chassis: Yamaha FZ-09 gets praised for that, but criticized for other stock components. As a result, there’s a thriving aftermarket scene with owners arguing over what is the best upgrade to make the bike faster and more fun to ride. Suspension components, exhaust systems, ECU flashes and ergonomic modifications are the common upgrades. The purpose of each of these upgrades is to fix different parts of the bike, whether it’s making it to handle better and have more power or to be more comfortable and less noisy. This is often the debate about which upgrade gives the most bang for the buck, taking into account the cost, difficulty of installation and the amount of difference it will make to the riding experience. It is suggested by some to fix the bike's weak points, and others advocate upgrading the bike's strong points. Often the discussion will speak to how various upgrades play off of each other and will change the character of the bike.

Forget performance mods. The bike is so much more versatile with a good set of luggage. Made mine a great sport tourer.

Rider training is the best upgrade. Then spend the money on a track day or an advanced riding course. Nothing will make as big a difference as any bolt on part.

If you do a lot of highway miles it is a good windscreen. It cuts back on fatigue and makes longer trips much more enjoyable.

I vote for suspension too, but only the fork springs and oil are good for the start. Without breaking the bank, it makes a big difference.

A different handlebar and ergonomic mods such as adjustable rearsets made the ride so much more comfortable for long rides. Comfort is key!

For me, honestly, the biggest difference was upgrading the brakes. You have so much more confidence with better pads and steel braided lines.

For me, it was the exhaust. It wakes up the engine and sheds a ton of weight, not just for the sound. Plus, it looks way better.

I'd say tires. How the bike handles and feels make a huge difference, and a good set of sticky rubber will make a big difference. It’s also a relatively cheap upgrade, plus.

ECU flash, no question. Unlocks more power and fixes the jerky throttle. The best value for money upgrade you can do.

Hands down, suspension. Just sort out the front forks and rear shock and it turns the bike. Icing on the cake is everything else.
