What price point will the AFEELA 1 need to be at to be successful in India?

by @ashutosh.kumarover 1 year ago0 views7 answers
As a high end electric vehicle with advanced technology, the AFEELA 1 is expected to come with a high price. Pricing is very important in the Indian automotive market, and consumers are very value for money conscious. The mass market of luxury cars in India is relatively small when you talk about the segment. Moreover, electric vehicles in India are more expensive generally as components are imported and are manufactured locally on a limited basis. While the government does provide some incentives for EV purchases, these may not be enough to make a vehicle of this category cheap. As the AFEELA 1 will be positioned as a premium product, the pricing strategy will have to be such that it will coexist in the Indian market where even established luxury brands struggle to achieve high volumes.

They’ll probably struggle at first but if they stick it out and gradually lower the price as they localize production it could work in the long run.

If they can’t sort out the charging infrastructure, the price won’t matter. If you can’t charge it conveniently, what’s the point of a fancy EV?

They should offer a subscription model. The car is available for use with all its features at a monthly fee. That could make it more accessible.

The real question I think is whether or not it'll qualify for any government EV incentives. That could make a big difference to the final price.

The price might actually work in its favor. In India, expensive often equals desirable. In fact, it could turn into a status symbol for tech savvy elite.

You're missing the point. It's not meant to be a mass-market car. It’s for people who like to be on the cutting edge and early adopters of tech.

It's gonna flop hard. Preposterous. No one’s going to pay luxury car prices for a brand they’ve never heard of, no matter how cool the tech is.
