What mods are the absolute musts for a KTM 990 Adventure?

by geeta kumariover 1 year ago0 views10 comments
As with any KTM 990 Adventure, owners like to modify their bikes, and some want to make it faster, others want to make it more comfortable, and still others want to make it more versatile. Everything from minor ergonomic changes to huge performance improvements is within reach. Suspension upgrades, exhaust systems, fuel management, and off-road protection parts are common areas for modification. Other topics discussed are comfort mods such as seats, windscreens, and handlebar risers. A few riders are attempting to boost power output, others are trying to improve reliability, and some are looking for the long-distance touring capabilities. Modifications are often chosen based on the use the rider intends to get out of the bike, whether that's more off-road use, long-distance touring, or a combination of both. This typically brings about debates about which mods provide the best bang for your buck and which are possibly must-have mods to get the most out of the 990 Adventure.

The most important mod is tires. A good set of 50/50 tires on a bike will really open up the bike on and off road.

A steering damper made a huge difference for me, especially on the loose surfaces or at high speeds.

Don't mod it at all! But keep it stock and enjoy it as KTM intended. You don’t need to mod a good bike. Too many people ruin good bikes with unnecessary mods.

I'd say luggage is essential. With a top box and good panniers, it becomes a true adventure machine.

LED lights all around. As there is better visibility, riding is safer, especially if you are out in the boonies.

Suspension upgrades are key. The stock setup is good, but with better springs and valving, it's a whole new bike.

Forget performance mods. Focus on reliability. Get a better fuel pump and upgrade the water pump. Run it, then worry about going faster.

A good exhaust and power commander. Let that V-twin really go!

Comfort is all about me. Long rides are so much better with a better seat, a taller windscreen, and heated grips.

Crash bars, a skid plate, and hand guards. Before anything else, protect your investment!
