What does the extra cost get you with the KTM Duke 890 R's electronics package?

by geeta kumariover 1 year ago0 views9 comments
The KTM Duke 890 R has a more advanced electronics package than the standard 890 Duke, including a bi-directional quickshifter, better traction control, and more riding modes. One of the major reasons for the higher price tag of R is the use of this tech-heavy approach. There is much debate amongst riders about whether or not these electronic aids improve riding at all or if they aren't really needed for street use. Others say the advanced electronics offer a safety net and encourage riders to push the bike to its limits more confidently. Some say the standard 890’s setup is simple enough, and the extra cost could go to aftermarket upgrades. The conversation often centers on the learning curve involved with these machines, their reliability, and whether or not they enhance or hinder the purely riding experience that many naked bike fans want.

If you can afford it, the R is the one that I would recommend. You will not use all the features right now, but you will enjoy them when you are good.

The electronics package doesn't mean as much to me as the upgraded suspension on the R.

After the first month I turned most of the electronics off. Riding without them is more fun.

The R’s electronics make it feel like a much more premium bike. It’s not just about performance but the whole experience.

It really depends on your skill level, I think. The electronic nannies may not be required by experienced riders.

For a newer rider, the advanced electronics instill enough confidence to push to the limits safely.

The extra modes are nice; I just rarely use them. I would have rather spent the money on a nice exhaust.

It's overkill for the street. If you don’t run the track often, save your money and get the standard 890.

Totally worth it. It's the quickshifter alone that changes the riding experience.
