So is the Nexon EV's infotainment system a deal breaker when compared to rivals?

A car's infotainment system is a major part of the overall user self-driving experience of a modern car, and the infotainment system in Tata Nexon EV has been a point of debate amongst its owners and potential owners. Offering basic functionality, some users won’t find it as sophisticated as more advanced systems found in competing vehicles. Laggy performance, limited app integration and somewhat dated interface, are all issues that have been reported. However, supporters say it gets the job done and are sufficient for most users. Whether or not to be suprised at the infotainment system being a key consideration in the purchase of an EV; especially a cheap one, is also up for debate. It has recently been argued that to remain competitive, Tata should concentrate on this area, while others prefer to continue focusing on the core EV performance and affordability.

So as an IT person I find myself getting really annoyed whenever I use the infotainment system. That's not just having fancy features; it's having a smooth, responsive interface. It lags and sometimes glitches are a real pain. Clearly, Tata should at least opt to have a premium infotainment system offered as an option to those who wish for it.

I agree it's not the best system out there but am thankful Tata concentrated on making a reliable, cheap EV first. With software updates or in future models they can always make it better. So for the moment I'd prefer a simple EV with a ‘good’ infotainment over a smart screen with weak EV performance.

I believe that people are making too much of this. The Nexon EV isn’t intended to be a tech showcase, it’s an affordable, practical EV. Be prepared to pay a lot more if you want all of the bells and whistles. For the most part, the infotainment does what it should do.

The infotainment quality of the Nexon EV stands night and day ahead of the MG ZS EV as someone who has test driven both. Take the system in the Nexon, it feels like 2015. It wasn’t a deal breaker for everyone, but it certainly made me think twice before taking the plunge.

It's not wonderful, but it's not a make or break for me. I mostly use Apple CarPlay anyways so the native system isn't a huge deal for me. Having said all this, it’d also be nice to have smoother performance and more integration with EV specific bits of functionality like, say, displaying charging station locations.

I disagree. It’s a huge letdown as far as the infotainment system is concerned. But it is slow, clunky, it feels out of date when compared to the Hyundai and Kia these are replacing. The infotainment system is a necessity, not a luxury, and in 2024, you need a good one. This really is a case where Tata has to pull up their socks.

The infotainment system is pretty basic honestly but it works. An affordable EV is not something I am expecting to be fancy. As soon as it connects to my phone and plays music I’m fine. But given that we’re supposed to save on money with an EV as well, the money saved probably went into the battery or motor, which is also the more important part in the EV.
