Is the Royal Enfield Roadster 650’s weight going to be a deal breaker for urban riders?

Royal Enfield motorcycles are known as a bit on the heavy side, especially when it comes to their bigger displacement models. The Interceptor 650 weighs about 202 kg (dry), and the Super Meteor 650 weighs a portly 241 kg (wet). Given that the Roadster 650 will probably have a similar chassis and engine setup, there are doubts about its weight, which could make it difficult for city riders to weave in and out of traffic and park in tight spaces. At low speeds and in stop and go traffic, common for city riding, a heavier bike is harder to manage. Also, the weight may affect the fuel efficiency and agility of the bike. Some think the weight adds stability at higher speeds and a more planted feel on the road, but others disagree. The question is: can Royal Enfield get the Roadster 650 right to make it appealing to those who want to use it for city commutes and weekend rides?

I believe people overlook weight specs too much. It’s less about what the bike looks like, and more about how the bike is balanced and the ergonomics are set up. If RE can get those right, the Roadster will feel lighter than it is.

Actually, the weight could be a plus for highway stability. If marketed as a do it all bike for the city and touring, the extra heft might not be seen as a bug, but a feature.

That depends on the rider’s experience and physique. Some will be fine with it, others will be a deal breaker. Potential buyers should be able to judge for themselves RE should offer test rides in urban settings.

Being a city rider, I'm worried about the weight. A heavy bike can be a pain to filter through traffic and parking in tight spots. If they can't get it a lot lighter than the Interceptor, I might lose interest.

The weight is honestly overblown. Given the low center of gravity these are easier to handle than the numbers suggest. The number is less important than how the weight is carried.

I think it could be an issue for newer riders or riders that are coming from lighter bikes. In urban settings, RE will need to really nail the balance and weight distribution to make it work. As long as it can keep it under 210 kg wet, it might be okay.

It is definitely a concern but it is not a deal breaker. Once you're on the move, these bikes aren't bad at all. And the low end torque comes in handy in traffic. It’s manageable, but it might take some getting used to.
