Is the Royal Enfield Bullet 250 fit for modern traffic, or is it a safety hazard?
The Royal Enfield Bullet 250, underpowered and using older technology, is not suitable for use in today’s traffic conditions. But today, in an age of ever more powerful, ever more agile motorcycles, the Bullet 250's lack of performance is more noticeable. Debates arise as to whether it can go fast enough to merge safely on highways, keep up on steeply graded streets, and move quickly in an emergency. Supporters say that if the rider is skilled enough, he or she will be able to predict traffic and ride defensively to make up for the bike's shortcomings. However, critics say the bike lacks power and has an older braking system, putting riders in harm's way more than necessary, particularly in fast urban traffic or on freeways. This discussion expands to include the role of riders in selecting the right vehicles for the riding environment, and the compromise between the protection of classic motorcycling experiences and the safety of the road.

It’s not ideal, but it’s not impossible. There’s no choice but to change your riding style and become more proactive. Is it as safe as modern bike? Probably not. If you know what it can’t do, you can ride it safely most of the time.

I've ridden mine in all kinds of traffic, and while it’s more attentive and requires more planning, it’s doable. The main thing to do is ride defensively, and know what’s going on around you. In actuality, it’s made me a better rider all round.

How long is a matter of the rider’s skill, and the particular traffic conditions. It's fine in moderate traffic. However, in heavy, fast traffic, it’s hard and could be dangerous, particularly for less proficient riders.

It's a rolling roadblock, no way. It’s downright scary trying to merge onto a highway or keep up with fast moving traffic. On quiet country roads, it's fine, but in city traffic or on highways it's a hazard.

After a bit of practice you can definitely keep up with traffic on a Bullet 250. Everything is about reading the flow and planning your moves. It’s not as fast as modern bikes, but it’s not a mobility scooter.
