Is the Mahindra XUV.e8 really competing with global EV brands or just playing catch up?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
With the Mahindra XUV.e8, it's entering a market that's increasingly full of both established global automakers and new EV focused brands. The question then arises about how competitive the XUV.e8 can be on the world stage. Mahindra has a strong presence in India but it still has some way to go to establish itself on the global stage in the passenger vehicle market — particularly in EVs. Features, performance, and price will be key in how competitive the XUV.e8 will be. Then there is the issue of brand perception and whether Mahindra can break down any preconceptions that Indian made vehicles are inferior in international markets. Much of the discussion also revolves around Mahindra's partnerships with global tech companies and how that may drive the development and appeal of the XUV.e8.

They might surprise us all. Anyone remember when Korean cars were terrible? Look at them now. EVs could be Mahindra’s path too.

I want Mahindra to succeed, but let’s face it, perception of brand is going to be a major challenge. It will be seen as a serious global contender in years.

The true test will be with charging infrastructure and after sales service. If they want to compete globally, Mahindra needs to nail those.

Price point is all it comes down to. Mahindra could occupy a nice niche if they can undercut global brands while offering pretty much the same features.

And I think Mahindra's emphasis on ruggedness and practicality could actually be an advantage for them. Not everyone wants a delicate tech mobile that can't take rough roads.

Let's not kid ourselves. But it is years behind Tesla or other Chinese EV makers. Could the XUV.e8 be good for India, but globally? No chance.

This is a real shot for Mahindra. It’s been smart with tech development and partnerships. Plus, the XUV.e8 looks like it can take on any global brand.
