Is the KTM 125 Adventure just a show-off, or can it handle a bit of off-road?

The KTM 125 Adventure comes with adventure styling, which implies an off-road-oriented machine, but the small engine size and road-oriented tires make us wonder as to what it would do off-road. The bike is debated by riders as to whether it can ride dirt roads, gravel paths, and mild trails or if the bike’s adventure aesthetics are just for looks and not for functionality. This inevitably leads to debates about how these motorcycles compare to purpose-built dirt bikes and big adventure bikes, things like suspension travel, ground clearance, and power-to-weight ratio. After that, the subject also discusses the possibilities of modifications to improve off-road performance and what kind of off-road expectations the riders can have from a 125cc adventure-styled motorcycle.

I think people don’t realize how capable these small bikes are. It may also come at a benefit in soft ground where the larger bikes can get stuck.

If you had some knobbier tires and a skid plate, you'd be surprised what this little beast can do. It's not exactly an enduro, but it's fun off-road.

It's 70 percent show, 30 percent go. It will do fine on gravel and dirt roads, but anything more technical and you're asking for trouble.

It's all about skill, man. I've seen guys go places on these little bikes that I never would've thought. The arrow is not the Indian.

It’s mostly for show, let’s be real. If you're going to do any serious off-roading, you'll be wishing you had more power and better suspension.

I have taken mine on some pretty gnarly paths. It can do more than you think, but you have got to be smooth with your inputs.

It's not a dirt bike, but it can take fire roads and light trails. You won't be jumping logs or fording rivers, though.
