Is the Ignis’s high seating position a gimmick, or a genuinely useful characteristic?

Another selling point with the Ignis is the relatively high seating position, which Maruti Suzuki sells as an SUV like feel. According to the company, this feature provides better visibility and a more commanding view of the road, and easier ingress and egress for older passengers. But there is debate as to whether or not this seating position actually offers tangible benefits, or is just marketing to make the Ignis stand out in a crowded hatchback segment. The high seating compromises handling and body roll, says some, while others sing praise for it as it adds to overall comfort and confidence while driving.

In India, road conditions are unpredictable, so it’s useful. That extra height makes it easier for you to see potholes and obstacles.

I applaud the effort to be different but I would rather have better handling than a slightly higher view.

The high seating is nice, but there is a cost to headroom. Those taller might have to hunch a bit.

It's a smart move by Maruti. Without actually making the Ignis an SUV or crossover, it gives the Ignis a unique selling point.

I’m someone with back problems, and the higher seating position is genuinely useful. Lower cars are a lot harder to get in and out of.

I think it's mostly a gimmick, and I don't think it's a gimmick I'd like to have. It’s not like you’re sitting in an actual SUV, but you do sit a little higher. It just makes the car feel even taller and less stable.

The high seating is great! A much better view of the road ahead is super helpful in city traffic.
