Is the fuel efficiency of Pulsar 150 overhyped?

For many years now, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 has been noted for its fuel efficiency, with many owners and reviewers calling it the bike's strongest selling point. The company claims a mileage of about 50 kmpl which is great for a 150cc motorcycle. But there's still debate about whether these figures hold in real world circumstances. While some riders say they have been able to get close to the claimed mileage, others say they struggle to cross 40 kmpl especially in city traffic. Many things can affect fuel efficiency, including your riding style, how well you maintain your bike, and in some cases even motorcycle mods like aftermarket exhaust. And there’s also the question of whether we’ve been so focused on fuel efficiency that we’ve compromised performance or features. In a time where the electric vehicles are ruling, is the Pulsar 150’s fuel efficiency still a big selling point?

A few kmpl here and there, who cares? The Pulsar is about riding, not fuel economy.

But the older models were really fuel efficient. The newer ones, not so much. Bajaj is trading on past reputation.

It's all marketing hype. They test these bikes in perfect conditions you will never see in real life.

In general, fuel efficiency is overrated. I’d rather have better performance and features than just saving few rupees on petrol.

The problem is inconsistency. You might get 50 in one tank, 38 in the next. It's frustrating.

It depends on your expectations. Even 40 kmpl is pretty good for a 150cc bike. People just have unrealistic expectations.

Totally overrated. In the city, my friend's Pulsar barely gives 35 kmpl. The company is way off with their claims.

If you know how to ride efficiently, it’s not overrated. In mixed conditions, I consistently get 45–48 kmpl.
