Is the Force Traveller 26 a good base for a camper van conversion?

In India, DIY camper van enthusiasts are increasingly turning to the Force Traveller 26. It appears to have a spacious interior and to be robust enough for conversion projects. But the suitability debate continues with the Tata Winger or imported vans. Arguments have been made that its dated design and lack of power will make it unsuitable for lengthy odysseys or off road antics. Advantages that others praise include the reliability and ease of maintenance. It also lets the vehicle have a boxy shape that allows for creative interior layouts. It is also cheaper, as the Traveller costs less than some of its alternatives. Long trip comfort, fully loaded fuel efficiency, and aftermarket parts availability are all open to questions.

The biggest problem I found with my Traveller camper was fuel economy when fully loaded. On hills, it really guzzles diesel. If you don't mind that and aren't in a rush, it's a great, budget friendly option for vanlifers.

The Traveller is underrated as a camper base, I think. It's not fancy, for sure, but that's part of the charm. It's simple, reliable, very Indian and like the Ambassador of vans. You can do an awesome setup with some creativity.

That really depends on what you need. The Traveller can be great if you’re planning mostly weekend trips and don’t mind a slower pace. However, if you’re planning on vanlife full time or long distance touring, you may want something more modern and powerful.

No way, man. A proper camper the Traveller is way too underpowered for. I tried it and regretted it. If you can afford it, you’re better off with a Tata Winger or importing a used Sprinter. On the highway, the Traveller just feels old.

Last year I converted my Traveller 26 into a camper and it's been awesome! It’s the perfect space inside for a comfy setup. Yes, it's not the most powerful engine in the world, but it works. And the parts are cheap and easily available.
