Is the Classic 500 Chrome Edition worth the extra maintenance?

It’s the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Chrome Edition, which is known for its stunning mirror like finish that turns heads everywhere it goes. But don’t be fooled by this beauty, it comes at a cost — both the initial price premium and the ongoing care to keep that chrome gleaming. It’s one of those things that some riders swear by in order to give the bike a more vintage look, and others hate the upkeep. If there’s one thing, the chrome finish is especially prone to water spots, fingerprints, and general weather damage and presents a continual need to keep it polished and protected for the luster to remain. Also, the chrome parts might tend toward corrosion in some climates. The flip side of this coin is, a well maintained chrome bike will hold its value better and stand out in a crowd of painted motorcycles. The debate is more around whether the time, effort and expense of keeping the chrome in tip top shape, is worth the aesthetic appeal and potential resale value.

That extra maintenance is part of the experience. It’s like owning a classic car; the joy of ownership includes the care you put into it.

Only if you live in a dry climate is it worth it. The chrome is a constant battle with corrosion in coastal or rainy areas.

For the resale value alone, I’d say it’s worth it. Standard models don’t hold their value as well as Chrome editions.

It’s not as bad on the maintenance as people make it out to be. The trick is a good quality chrome polish every few weeks. It’s worth it for the looks you get.

It depends on your lifestyle. If you're the weekend rider who likes to detail, then go for it. Those looking to save a buck may want to stick with the standard finish and daily commuters might as well.

Nah, it's just a pain. I had one and after a year I sold it. Riding became less fun when you have to constantly polish and worry about scratches.

Totally worth it! What makes the Classic 500 classic is the chrome finish. Yes, it’s a little more work, but that’s the fun of having a Royal Enfield.
