Is the Afeela 1’s $89,900 price tag justified?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views5 comments
The Afeela 1, the product of a partnership between Sony and Honda that has created a fair amount of buzz, just announced a starting price of $89,900, raising some eyebrows. That means it's going head to head with established luxury EV brands like Tesla and Lucid. Equipped with over 40 sensors for autonomous driving, a custom LG display and integration with Epic Games' Unreal Engine, the Afeela 1 has a lot of technology. But it also has a couple of drawbacks, including a relatively slow 150kW DC fast charging speed. The competitive EV market and Afeela's status as a new brand are fueling debate of whether the price point is right, or too ambitious for a new brand.

I'm on the fence. It’s expensive, but if they hit the user experience and the autonomous features, it could be a game changer. Real world reviews are something we need to see more of.

Y'all are missing the point. This is more than just a car, it’s a mobile entertainment platform. If you like to game and if you like tech, then it might be worth every penny.

It's a tough sell. It sounds cool, but $90k is a lot to ask when you can buy established luxury EVs for less. And they have to do something truly unique to warrant that price.

I think it's justified. It's not just a car, you're paying for cutting edge tech from Sony. There are all sorts of entertainment and autonomous features that alone would be worth the premium.

No way, that’s ridiculous for an unproven brand. For that money you could get a top spec Tesla Model S or Lucid Air with better performance and charging speeds.
