Is Nissan’s e-Pedal feature on the LEAF a game changer or a gimmick?
by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views5 comments
On newer Nissan LEAFs, a feature called e-Pedal lets you drive on one pedal alone; when you lift off the accelerator, the car applies regenerative braking. In most cases, this can stop the car completely without ever touching the brake pedal. Supporters say it can help make city driving both more relaxing and more efficient, while critics are unsure what it's good for and fear it will erode our traditional skills behind the wheel. It often covers such matters as driver adaptation, energy efficiency and the general driving experience. EVs are starting to feature it, but how well it works differs among models.

It's not a gimmick, but it's not revolutionary. Other EVs have similar features, and you have to get used to them.

It's great for efficiency, but I worry that new drivers will run off of it too much. You still need to practice using the brake pedal.

The option is nice, but it's not a game changer. I leave it on in the city but turn it off for highway driving.

So I tried it, and after a week I turned it off. It's a bit too jerky for my taste, and too aggressive. Regular regen is fine for me.

Absolute game-changer! After a while you’ll never want to go back. It makes stop and go traffic so much less stressful.
