Is it worth modifying a Thunderbird 350X for better performance in 2025?

It's no surprise then that Royal Enfields have long been modified by enthusiasts, and the Thunderbird 350X is no different. Because the bike is now out of production, some riders are seeking to upgrade their rides to match newer models. Performance exhausts, air filters, and have even been into engine bore kits to bump displacement. Others take the upgrades to the suspension and add cosmetic changes to truly make it a ride all their own. But there's a risk with modifying an older bike, it can affect reliability, void any remaining warranty, and possibly damage resale value. And then there's the question of diminishing returns – how much performance can you really get out of the aging UCE engine anyway? For Thunderbird owners thinking of giving their rides a new lease on life, would they be wise to invest in mods or would they be better off spending the money on a new bike?

Think about the long term. The bike becomes harder to sell later on with heavy mods. If you’re going to have it for years, go nuts. If you might upgrade soon, keep it mostly stock.

Half the fun of owning an RE is the modding! It won't help you achieve massive gains in performance, but the process of working on your bike, and the fact that it's unique to you, is really rewarding in itself.

It's a slippery slope. Start with one mod, and before you know it you’re chasing more power and blowing way more money than you meant to. It's not worth it unless you've got deep pockets.

Instead of outright performance, I'd say focus on quality of life mods. There are things that can be done to make a big difference without sacrificing reliability, such as better lighting, improved ergonomics, and luggage options.

Depends on your goals. Don't expect massive power gains if you're looking for them. If you want to make the bike truly yours, and add to its character, then go for it. So, be ready to spend some money.

Not worth it in my opinion. No matter how much you mod, you will never match the performance of modern bikes. Or save up for something newer, or just enjoy the Thunderbird for what it is.

Absolutely worth it! A good exhaust and air filter combo can really wake up the engine. But you can customize your ride plus. Don’t go overboard, just stick with reputable brands.
