Is it a future collector's item the Classic 500 Chrome Edition?

As Royal Enfield moves on from the 500cc engine, and onto their new 350cc and 650cc platforms, there is a lot of talk about whether or not the Classic 500 Chrome Edition will become a collectible in the future. It's one of the last models to have the iconic 500cc engine and thus the end of an era for the brand. Their limited production numbers and distinctive chrome finish makes them potentially a nice collector's piece. But the Classic 500 has been in production for a relatively long time and was sold in high numbers too, which runs against its desirability in terms of rarity. There is also debate about whether this chrome edition will hold up aesthetically better than the more traditional painted models. However, some enthusiasts argue that, as electric motorcycles become more popular, any well maintained classic petrol bike will become collectible. Others point out that generally speaking, only very special editions or historically significant motorcycles appear to go up in value. Owners also disagree on the question of whether to ride and enjoy the bike or save it as a potential investment.

The real value is found in riding and enjoying it now. It won't fund your retirement!

A cult classic, not a high value collector item. Enthusiasts will look out for it, but they won’t be chasing it for big money.

It depends on how well EVs take over, I think. Maybe even regular models will become collectible if petrol bikes become rare.

In the electric future, any classic bike will be collectible if it is well maintained. The only difference is that the chrome edition just has that extra visual appeal.

It is not a goldmine, but it will certainly keep its value better than the standard models. There's a little bit of specialness to it.

Nah, it’s just too many to be collectible. I mean, if it was a limited edition run that would be cool but the regular chrome models? Not likely.

Definitely! The chrome edition was always a head turner but the 500cc engine is a piece of Royal Enfield history. It's worth a pretty penny in 20 years — keep it in good condition.
