How does the VFR1200F weight up in the real world?

There has been debate among riders and reviewers of the Honda VFR1200F around its weight. You wouldn't call it a lightweight sport bike at 267 kg (589 lbs) wet. As a result, there have been conversations about how the bike feels in different conditions: twisty mountain roads, city traffic, etc. But some say weight makes it less agile and others say Honda's engineering has the bike feeling lighter than it really is. Riders argue about how the bike behaves in low speed maneuvers, emergency braking and spirited corner work. The topic is usually compared to other sport-tourers and the trade off between weight, stability and performance.

I don't think the weight complaints are overblown. It is, after all, heavy, but it’s also a sport tourer. What did people expect? What it is, it handles beautifully.

You definitely feel the heft in city traffic. On the open road, however, it’s a non issue. It’s a nimble, balanced bike.

At first, I was worried about the weight but after a few rides, I realised it’s no problem at all. Its all about the technique and knowing your bike.

In fact, the weight actually helps in creating stability on long highway stretches. I love it feeling planted and confident, as I do for touring.

It's not the easiest thing in the world to get low speed maneuvering down at first, if you are coming from a lighter bike. You get used to it pretty quickly but.

It’s surprisingly agile in the twisties. It may not be a supersport, but it certainly holds its own, and feels much lighter than the specs suggest.

Once you’re moving, honestly the weight just disappears. Honda did a great job with mass centralization.
