How does the KTM 990 Supermoto R ride for bigger riders?

by geeta kumariover 1 year ago0 views10 comments
The KTM 990 Supermoto R is generally known for its nimble handling and having an aggressive riding position. But there’s a great debate about how well it fits riders of different sizes, especially taller and heavier riders. Bike reviewers say the bike feels cramped or unstable for some bigger riders, but the bike's adjustability and power make it good for a wide variety of body types, according to other bike reviewers. As a result, there has been talk about what modifications, ergonomic tweaks, and suspension setups could be made to better fit the bike to bigger riders. The question of whether the bike's performance characteristics change significantly with a heavier rider on board is also on the table. In this article we'll take a look at the various experiences and opinions of how the 990 SMR does or does not cater to riders of all sizes and if there are any changes that may need to occur in order for the larger enthusiast to be able to enjoy this iconic supermoto to its fullest potential.

For us bigger riders, it's all about mods. It had raised handlebars, different pegs, and a custom-made seat to suit my 6'3" frame. When there is a will, there is a way.

It's not the most comfortable bike I've ridden, but I'm 6'5", and the fun factor more than makes up for it. Why do you need comfort when you're having so much fun?

I actually like the stiff suspension as a heavier rider. It doesn't bottom out as some other bikes I've ridden do. All you have to do is get the preload right.

At 5'8", I find it perfect. I have friends who are taller than me and who, when they ride, look a bit like gorillas on a tricycle. It's definitely more for average heights.

Longer trips can be a problem for larger riders on the narrow seat. In terms of comfort, an aftermarket seat made a world of difference for me.

I'm a big guy, and it handles fine, but the fuel consumption takes a hit. If you’re already worried about its thirsty nature, something to keep in mind.

For larger riders, the adjustability of the bike is what makes it great. If you’re on the bigger side, spend some time getting the ergonomics right, and it can work well.

By no means is this designed for the average-sized rider. I'm 6'4", and it was a bit cramped. Turned out I sold it for something with more room to move around.

I'm not small and had to make the suspension beefed up for it to be dialed in. After that, though, it drives like a dream. Don't be put off by your size.

Being a 6'2" rider, I find the 990 SMR a surprisingly comfortable bike. Taller folks will find the upright position works well, and there is plenty of legroom. No complaints here!
