How does the EQS 450 4Matic ride compared to the traditional S-Class?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
While the S-Class has been the standard for luxury ride quality for some time, with its smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride, this is the first time that Mercedes can call that ride 'magic.' Mercedes wanted to translate that legendary comfort into the electric era with the introduction of the EQS. The S Class uses a different platform and suspension setup compared to the EQS, but this may actually be better to ride as an EV. But the batteries add weight and shift the weight balance of an EV to affect handling and comfort. There are those who say the EQS offers an even smoother and more quiet ride thanks to its electric powertrain, and others who will say that the S Class ride quality is still king. Often, the comparison sparks discussions of the future of luxury cars, and whether EVs are capable of making considerable leaps over their ICE counterparts on the comfort and refinement front.

Next level ride quality in the EQS. That's not just about smoothness, but how it marries that with the instant responsiveness of the electric motor. It's a new kind of luxury.

It's a toss-up. But the S-Class feels more substantive and the EQS is quieter. I believe it is down to personal preference.

On smooth roads the EQS is amazing, but I think the S Class deals with bumps and potholes better. Perhaps it’s the extra weight of the batteries.

I was skeptical, but the EQS did win me over. An incredibly smooth ride, no gear changes, and the instant torque means it's great in stop and go traffic.

The smooths are different kinds. There’s a more futuristic, glidier EQS and a more traditional, solid Mercedes S Class. Both great, just different.

I still prefer the S Class but it’s close. On the highway, the EQS is super quiet, but it feels less planted due to, I think, weight distribution.

The EQS ride is beyond smooth. I'm floating on a cloud. I don't think there's any engine vibration at all, and I think it's even better than the S-Class.
