How does the BE 6’s in car camera feature stack up against Tesla’s cabin camera?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
The BE 6 Pack Three comes with an in car camera feature, which Mahindra is marketing as a unique selling point. The idea behind this camera is to enable video calls and take selfies, a new dimension to in car experience. But it also brings up privacy concerns, as well as practical utility. For years, Tesla vehicles have had a cabin facing camera on the front dash, and while that's been used for safety and security purposes like monitoring driver alertness and protecting the vehicle when in Tesla's "Sentry Mode", it's never been applied to facial recognition. The discussion of these two approaches to in car cameras also raises questions regarding the trade off between innovative capabilities and privacy issues, and possible future uses of such technology in vehicles.

What I’m more interested in is how this camera could develop in future updates. Could driver monitoring features be added later by Mahindra? It would make it more similar to Tesla’s implementation.

We all know that most people will use the selfie feature for a week and then forget about it. Most buyers won’t make or break a decision based on it.

Mahindra missed a chance here, I think. The camera could have been both fun and safe, and would have been more useful overall.

The BE 6 comes with a camera that could be useful for vloggers or those that do a lot of video calls on the go. It’s a niche feature, but I can see it taking off with some users.

Both have their merits, but privacy is my concern. How safe is the data from these cameras? Before I’d be comfortable with either, I’d want clear information on data handling.

Mahindra's approach is something I actually like. It's more fun and it's more social. Car safety doesn’t have to be everything; sometimes, you just want some fun features.

Tesla's camera seems more gimmicky than the BE 6's. Who really needs to take selfies in their car? I mean. Tesla's, at least, has one clear safety purpose.
