How do the Aprilia STX 160 fares in city traffic compared to smaller scooters?

by Sukhmandeep Kaurover 1 year ago0 views10 comments
For many commuters, daily navigation of congested city streets is a challenge, and the vehicle you choose can make a big impact. With the Aprilia STX 160, which is larger with a more powerful engine, urban riders have an interesting option. Users praise its stability and commanding road presence, but others are worried about its maneuvering in narrow places. Scooter weight and dimensions are things to look at when lane splitting, or parking in crowded areas. The STX 160 is also very sporty, and that may negatively impact its low speed handling. City riding is an important consideration for many potential buyers, so how this maxi scooter fares in urban environment versus more nimble, smaller capacity scooters is important to know.

It is a steep learning curve but once you get into it, the STX 160 is great in the city. It gives you that extra power to keep ahead of traffic.

It is not ideal for super congested Asian style traffic, but most Western cities, it is perfectly manageable and even advantageous.

Coming from a smaller scooter the STX 160 felt more comfortable for longer city commutes. You do notice the extra stability.

In city traffic the STX 160 shines. It's safer because of the ABS and better brakes, when cars suddenly cut you off.

It's overkill for city use. A 125cc scooter is plenty, and will be far easier to manage in tight places.

It handles so well in the city, I love it. One thing that is a huge plus is that the higher seating position allows you to see traffic better.

It's a mixed bag. It's stable as heck, but the weight can be a real pain when you're constantly stopping and starting in heavy traffic.

The extra power is great for quick overtakes and merging which takes the stress off riding in the city. The trade off in size is worth it.

It is too bulky for city use. They are much faster to squeeze through tight spots and park in crowded areas.

Surprisingly, for its size, the STX 160 is pretty agile. After some time, it is even easier to navigate than smaller scooters in traffic.
